LAWTON, Okla. – The No. 11 Angelo State softball team lost two games to Cameron after giving up leads in the seventh inning of both games in Lawton, Okla., on Friday afternoon.
The Rambelles fall to 22-9 on the season and 7-3 in the LSC while Cameron moves to 19-9 and 5-5 in the LSC.
"We lost games today by starting the seventh innings off with errors," head coach
Travis Scott said after the game. "We have to play confident ground ball defense. We have to bounce back and salvage a series split tomorrow."
Cameron took an early 1-0 lead in game one after a leadoff walk off
Sandra Serna would score in the first inning.
The Rambelles answered in a big way in the second inning.
Kenedy Urbany led the inning off with a single to right field. Tina Cisneors blasted her third home run of the season to put ASU up 2-1.
Megan Granado stepped to the plate and hit her sixth home run of the season for a 3-2 Rambelle lead.
Kelci Garza led off the fourth with a double and would score on a
Micherie Koria to make it 4-1 ASU.
Cameron would score an unearned run in the fifth as Tara Martini scored on a passed ball to cut the score to 4-2.
The Aggies figured out Serna in the seventh inning. After Misty Dooley reached on an error, Macy McKay drove her home with a double. Urbany would be brought into pitch after a single by Martini. Cameron tied it on a fielder's choice to send the game to extra innings.
The Rambelles threatened with runners at second and third in the top of the ninth inning but ASU couldn't bring a run home.
Cameron won the game in the bottom of the ninth on a home run to center field by Martini. It is only Urbany's second loss of the season and she is now 12-2 on the season.
Game two started with the Aggies taking an early 1-0 lead much like game one after one inning.
The Rambelles would be held scoreless until the fourth inning.
Darian Dunn hit a double and would score on a single by pinch hitter
Carly Peters to tie the game at one.
ASU took the lead in the fifth after
Morgan Spearman would score from third on an error by the catcher for a 2-1 Rambelle lead.
The Aggies answered in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at two.
The Rambelles would score three runs in the sixth inning. Granado hit a single to left and would score on a sacrifice fly by Garza. Urbany and
Ambra Hill reached home after a single to left field from Spearman to put ASU up 5-2.
Another run would come across in the seventh as
Maddy McGarity scored from second on a dropped foul ball to make it 6-2.
Cameron started its comeback with the first two batters reaching on errors. A single would load the bases.
Mary Kate McKay, who started the game, battled back and got two-straight outs on a grounder to second base and a pop-up to third. The Aggies bounced back with two singles to make it 6-5 and Urbany was brought in to pitch.
The first batter Urbany faced hit a single to left field that scored two runs to win the game 7-6 for Cameron. McKay falls to 3-3 on the season with the loss.
The Rambelles will play a doubleheader tomorrow at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at McMahon Field.
