SAN ANGELO – The No. 25 Angelo State softball team used a seven run fourth inning to beat Texas A&M-International 11-5 on Tuesday night at Mayer Field.

"It was a good start to the series," head coach Travis Scott said. "The offense continues to have good production and it was great to see Mary Kate give us seven strong innings. We need to have two more wins during our home stand."

Nine ASU players (15-7, 2-1 LSC) pounded out 11 runs on 11 hits, three of which were home runs. The Dustdevils (9-13) were held to six hits on the night.

Rachel Moore and Kenedy Urbany started the game off with a bang. The duo hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the first to give ASU a 3-0 lead after one inning.

The Dustdevils responded in the top of the second. Two hits and a walk combined with an error led to three runs to tie the game.
Morgan Spearman led off the third with a walk. After a wild pitch put her at second, the senior went home on a stolen base attempt by Darian Dunn.

Mary Kate McKay held TAMIU scoreless in the top of the fourth and the bats came alive in the bottom of the fourth for ASU.

The Rambelles scored seven runs on seven hits. Megan Granado scored Urbany with an RBI double. The bases were loaded for Spearman and she hit a bases clearing double off the left field wall. After a single by Micherie Koria, Darian Dunn hit her eighth home run of the season to left field for an 11-3 advantage after four innings.

TAMIU would add two runs in the fifth before McKay closed the door. The senior earned her second win of the season after only allowing six hits through seven innings. She recorded a season-high five strikeouts.

The Rambelles return to Mayer Field for a doubleheader with Texas A&M-International at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The second game will be broadcasted locally on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call.
