No. 10 Rambelles Sweep Doubleheader from Texas A&M-Kingsville on Senior Day

The No. 10 Angelo State softball team sent its six seniors out with a doubleheader sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville 10-4 and 13-1 in the final regular season home games of the year at Mayer Field.

The Rambelles won their 12th and 13th straight games and improve their record to 35-9 overall and 18-3 in the Lone Star Conference. ASU finishes the year at 21-3 at Mayer Field. The Javelinas dropped to 10-36 and 2-20 in the LSC. The two teams will conclude their season series on Friday in Kingsville.

Morgan Spearman added to her career runs scored total in the first two innings of game one. The senior reached on a bunt single and would score on a Darian Dunn sacrifice fly for a 1-0 early lead. The Kennedale native stepped to the plate in the second inning with two on and hit her eighth home run of the season to extend the ASU lead to 4-0.

Texas A&M-Kingsville battled back in the top of the third inning. Two walks, three hits and one error later, the game was tied at four. ASU took the lead back in the bottom of the third as Carly Peters drove home Megan Granado for a 5-4 advantage.

Mary Kate McKay started game one and after the rocky third inning only allowed one hit over the next 3.1 innings pitched.

Ambra Hill would score to make it 6-4 in the fifth, and four more runs came across in the sixth to break open the game. Dunn, Kenedy Urbany, Granado, Kelci Garza and Katlyn Herzog all recorded hits in the sixth inning for the final 10-4 score.

McKay earned her 10th win of the season while striking out two.

Dunn was the star of game two. Much like in the first game, Dunn would single to score Spearman in the first inning for a quick 1-0 advantage. The sophomore, who went three-for-four with four RBIs, tied DeshannaLynn Tafiti for the most RBIs in a single season in the second inning. The bases were loaded after two runs had already scored and Dunn blasts a double off the center field wall to score three. The Frisco native now has 76 RBIs on the season.  

A total of eight runs would come across in the second inning alone. The Rambelles tallied seven hits and two walks in the inning.

After a scoreless fourth, ASU would put four more runs on the board to go up 13-0. McGarity, Herzog, Spearman and Koria all were credited with RBIs.Texas A&M-Kingsville added a run in the top of the fifth for the final 13-1 tally. 

Sandra Serna earned her ninth win of the season pitching 4.0 innings only allowing two hits and one run. 

The Rambelles will return to the field on Thursday with a single game against St. Edward's in Austin.
