SAN ANGELO – The No. 7 Angelo State softball team will play its final non-conference game of the year on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. against St. Edward's in Austin before concluding a Lone Star Conference series with Texas A&M-Kingsville with a doubleheader on Friday starting at 1 p.m.
The Rambelles (35-9, 18-3 LSC) have won 13-straight games and moved up from No. 10 to No. 7 in the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll. ASU's batting average of .377 not only leads the LSC but is No. 2 nationally. ASU is also No. 2 nationally in slugging percentage (.597) and No. 2 in scoring (8.80 per game). The Rambelles is also the conference leader in hits (442), stolen bases (85) and sacrifice flies (35).
Morgan Spearman was named the LSC Hitter of the Week for the fourth time this season after hitting .615 last week with seven RBIs. The senior is No. 1 nationally in runs scored per game at 1.52 and is No. 2 in on-base percentage (.634) and No. 3 in average (.531). The Kennedale native has scored 67 runs this season off 68 hits. She is the team leader with 15 doubles, 39 walks and a .883 slugging percentage. Spearman is second on the team with 45 RBIs and has reached base safely in 37 consecutive games.
Darian Dunn, the national leader in RBIs with 76 and RBIs per game at 1.73, tied the ASU single season RBI record on Saturday. The sophomore added seven to her season total and is now tied with DeshannaLynn Tafiti for the single season record. The Frisco native is hitting .407 this season with 45 runs, 11 doubles and 12 home runs. She is second on the team with a .743 slugging percentage.
Micherie Koria is No. 3 in the LSC with a .447 average. She leads the Rambelles with 12 sacrifice hits. The San Diego native has scored 51 runs and recorded 32 RBIs this season. She has 51 hits which nine are doubles.
Ambra Hill continues to improve at the plate hitting .500 last weekend. On the season, Hill is hitting .361 and has scored 35 runs which are both season bests. She has stolen 11 bases and has a .404 on-base percentage. Her 35 hits surpassed her season best of 32 set last season.
Carly Peters had a big senior day. The San Antonio native hit .444 with three doubles and four RBIs. She is hitting .319 on the season with five doubles, five home runs and 19 RBIs.
Rachel Moore added her ninth home run of the season last week. The junior is hitting .347 this season with nine doubles and 38 RBIs. She has a .637 slugging percentage and 26 walks on the season.
Kenedy Urbany is fourth on the team in average with a .398 after hitting .417 last weekend. She has 10 doubles and eight home runs to go along with 29 runs scored and 42 RBIs. The Helotes native is third on the team with a .743 slugging percentage and she has 24 walks. In the circle, Urbany is 16-2 with a 3.43 ERA. She leads the team with 67 strikeouts and 11 complete games.
Mary Kate McKay earned her 9
th and 10
th wins of the season last week after holding teams to a 1.58 ERA. The LSC Pitcher of the Week has a season ERA of 2.70 and limited then-No. 3 St. Mary's to one hit in a complete game shutout. McKay has two shutouts and eight complete games while limiting opponents to a .258 batting average.
Sandra Serna picked up her ninth win of the season on Saturday against Texas A&M-Kingsville. She pitched 4.0 innings with a 1.75 ERA last week. She is 9-4 overall this season with a 3.50 ERA with a team leading three shutouts.
St. Edward's enters the game with a 27-20 record overall. Alex Mayfield is tops on the team with a .400 average while Kendall Lucas is second with a .390 average. Lucas has scored 28 runs this season while adding six doubles, two triples and three home runs.
Sarah Debrow is 14-9 in the circle with a 1.54 ERA for the Hilltoppers. She has five shutouts and has struck out 147 batters.
This will be the second game between the two schools this season. The Rambelles took the first game of the season in a 3-2 come from behind victory at the St. Mary's Invitational. Serna picked up the win in two innings of relief of
Mary Kate McKay.
Megan Granado had the game winning hit in the top of the 7
th inning. ASU is 36-14 all-time against St. Edward's.
Texas A&M-Kingsville is 10-38 overall and 2-20 in the LSC. Bailey Offill is tops on the team with a .303 batting average and she leads the Javelinas with 31 runs scored. Carlie Clark has a 7.40 ERA with a 4-18 overall record.
The Rambelles took the first two games of the series 10-4 and 13-1 in San Angelo. ASU holds the overall series 34-11.
