Records Fall as No. 7 Rambelles Defeat St. Edward's 7-1

Morgan Spearman
and Morgan Spearman broke the Angelo State softball single season records for RBIs and runs scored, respectively, as the No. 7 Rambelle softball team defeated St. Edward's 7-1 in Austin on Thursday afternoon.

"Another solid performance by our team," head coach Travis Scott said after the game. "We got to (Sarah) Debrow early then she settled into a rhythm. Morgan (Spearman) had a big hit to get us back on the board. Kenedy (Urbany) pitched a great game and we played very good defense. We have to be ready to come out and play well tomorrow against Texas A&M-Kingsville."

The Rambelles 14th-straight win improved their record to 36-9 on the season and finished the year 18-6 in non-conference action. The Hilltoppers dropped to 27-21 overall after the loss.

Dunn, who went two-for-three with four RBIs, made history in the first inning.  The sophomore hit a two-run double in the top of the first scoring Spearman and Maddy McGarity broke the ASU single-season record that was held by DeshannaLynn Tafiti.

Carly Peters added to the 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. The senior took the first pitch from Debrow and crushed it to left center for her sixth home run of the season to make it 3-0.

The Hilltoppers only run of the game came in the bottom of the second inning on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 3-1.

Spearman, who extended her streak of reaching base safely to 38 games, hit a double to right center that would score pinch runner Kelly Johnson. Dunn would increase her season RBI total to 80 with her 13th home run of the season to extend the ASU lead to 6-1. Spearman's scoring would move her past Sandy James on the single season list with 69 runs scored on the season.

The duo of Spearman and Dunn are close to adding their names to the LSC record books as well. Spearman is one run away from tying the season LSC record for runs score of 70 and Dunn is five RBIs from tying the LSC record of 85 set by TWU's Katie Hines last season.
Urbany starting her 17th game of the season would only scatter six hits over seven innings of work. It is the freshman's 17th win of the season.

Tina Cisneros would double to left center to score Megan Granado in the top of the seventh inning to bring the final score to 7-1.

The Rambelles will conclude its LSC series with Texas A&M-Kingsville tomorrow in Kingsville with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
