No. 7 Rambelles Split Doubleheader with Texas A&M-Kingsville

Rachel Moore
said after the game. "When we did hit it hard, we hit it at them and their center fielder made a great catch in the seventh to end the game. That ball had triple written all over it and she made a great catch. Mary Kate (McKay) and Sandra (Serna) pitched great and we just couldn't get any offense rolling today. We have a big weekend next weekend and need to bounce back."

The Rambelles moved to 37-10 overall and 19-4 in the Lone Star Conference, while Texas A&M-Kingsville is now 11-39 and 3-21 in the LSC. ASU left a total of 17 on base during the two games and it marks only the second time this season the Rambelles have been shutout.

In game one, Kelci Garza led off the second inning with a single and would score on a fielder's choice by Morgan Spearman to take a 1-0 lead. The Javelinas would respond with an unearned run in the bottom of the second to tie the game.

ASU regained the lead in the top of the third with three runs. Rachel Moore hit an RBI single for a 2-1 advantage. Megan Granado would bring Moore home with a double and crossed the plate after a throwing error.

Texas A&M-Kingsville would cut the advantage to 4-2 with a run in the fourth. The Rambelles responded with a run in the top of the fifth. Moore hit her 10th home run of the season to extend the lead to 5-2.

The Javelinas would score one run in the seventh but Mary Kate McKay closed the door with two groundouts. The senior pitched all seven innings for her 11th win of the season.

Game two was a pitching duel between Sandra Serna and TAMUK's Lauren Denny.

ASU would leave nine runners on base while the Javelinas left five on base. Megan Granado was on third in the top of the second after leading the inning off with a single. She was thrown out at home on a Maddy McGarity fielder's choice to end the threat.

Serna only allowed three hits through the first five innings of the game but Texas A&M-Kingsville changed that in the sixth. The Javelinas scored two runs on four hits before Kenedy Urbany came in relief and struck out the final batter.

Ambra Hill hit a single up the middle in the seventh inning  and stood on first base with Dunn at the plate. The sophomore hit a fly ball to deep center field but it was caught and thrown to first to throw out Hill for a game-ending double play.

Denney won her second game of the year in a complete game shutout. Serna received the loss and is now 9-5 on the year.

The Rambelles will travel to Canyon to face No. 1 West Texas A&M in a four-game LSC series that will decide the LSC Champion.
