SAN ANGELO – Mary Kate McKay threw a seven-hit shutout on Friday night at Mayer Field to lead No. 11 Angelo State to an 8-0 run-rule six inning victory over Eastern New Mexico.
"I thought we looked sharp tonight," head coach
Travis Scott said after the game. "Flawless defense is always a good thing and Mary Kate (McKay) was solid again. We had great crowd support again tonight and we need two more wins tomorrow to stay atop of the Lone Star Conference."
The Rambelles (29-9, 12-2 LSC) are now 17-3 at Mayer Field and won their 11
th-straight game at home. The Zias fell to 11-28 on the season and 1-16 in the LSC.
McKay only allowing seven hits through six innings of work and is now 8-3 on the season. . It is her first shutout of the season and the senior has now won her five-straight games.
ASU jumped on ENMU early with four runs in the first.
Morgan Spearman and
Micherie Koria both hit back-to-back singles while
Darian Dunn walked to load the bases.
Kenedy Urbany drew a walk to bring in the first run and
Micherie Koria would score on a wild pitch to make it 2-0
Megan Granado singled up the middle to score Dunn for a 3-0 lead. Urbany would score the fourth run of the inning before Cisneros was caught in a rundown.
Cisneros led the fourth inning off with a solo home run to center field. It is the junior's fifth of the season and extended the Rambelles lead to 5-0 after four innings.
McKay worked out of a jam in the fifth. ENMU put runners at second and third before grounding out to third and a pop up to second base.
Cisneros added to more RBI's to her total in the fifth with a double that scored
Luz'Ce Baca and
Kelly Johnson. The junior finished the game going two-for-three with three RBIs and one run scored.
Koria enforced the run-rule in the sixth with a double to score Spearman from second base.
It is the Rambelles seventh-straight victory. The two teams will conclude the LSC series tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at Mayer Field.
