SAN ANGELO  - The No. 7 Angelo State softball team defeated St. Edward's 2-1 in the night cap of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Two held at Mayer Field. ASU will face St. Mary's tomorrow at 2 p.m.

The Rambelles (40-14) advance to play the No. 3 seed St. Mary's, who defeated Cameron 6-0, at 2 p.m. tomorrow. St. Edward's (33-25) will play Cameron tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. in an elimination game.

Kenedy Urbany was the ASU's starter in the circle. The freshman only allowed two hits through the first five innings of the game.

It took the Rambelles a few innings to figure out St. Edward's Sarah Debrow after going down in order in the first and second innings. Rachel Moore stepped up to the plate in the third inning and took the first pitch deep to left field for her 14th home run of the season. The 1-0 lead was extended to 2-0 after Morgan Spearman hit a solo home run, her 10th of the season, to right center.

The Hilltoppers would threaten in the third. After only the second hit of the game, St. Edward's had a runner on second base. A grounder was hit to Ambra Hill who threw it to Carly Peters for the first out. Cydney Ervin took off for third and Peters gunned a ball to Darian Dunn for a double play to end the threat.

ASU would put two runners on base in the fourth but couldn't add to the 2-0 lead.

The Hilltoppers would make it interesting in the sixth by scoring a run after three-straight singles. St. Edward's had a runner at first and third. Megan Granado would gun down the runner's steal attempt for the first out. Urbany would handle the rest with a grounder to third followed up by her first strike out of the game to end the sixth inning.

St. Edward's would get the leadoff runner on first in the top of the seventh inning. Urbany struck out the second batter and the Hilltoppers laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the tying run to second base. The freshman ended the game with her third strike out.

It is Urbany's 20th win of the season after pitching the complete game. The freshman allowed one unearned run on seven hits.

The Rambelles and St. Mary's have faced each other five times this season with ASU holding a 3-2 advantage. The game will be carried locally on 1260AM KKSA.
