SAN ANGELO – The No. 6 Angelo State softball team will host South Central Regional rival No. 5 St. Mary's at Mayer Field for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 3 p.m.
The Rambelles are 18-2 on the season and 4-1 in the Lone Star Conference. Angelo State is 8-0 this season at Mayer Field and 31-5 in the last two years. Under head coach
Travis Scott, the Rambelles are 254-52 at home in the last 12 seasons. ASU has some of the top statistics in the nation being No. 7 in batting average (.385), No. 5 earned run average of 1.25 nationally and No. 5 in on base percentage.
The St. Mary's and ASU rivalry has been a competitive one. The Rambellese own a 33-31 series advantage. The two teams have ended each other seasons as recent as last season. The Rattlers advanced to the South Central Super Regional after defeating ASU 9-2 at Mayer Field last season. In the last 10 matchups, the two teams are 5-5 against each other but St. Mary's has won four of the last five.
St. Mary's enters with a 17-3 record overall. Vianna Gutierrez is the team's leader at the plate and in the circle. She is hitting .484 on the seasons with 15 hits, three doubles and two home runs. Gutierrez is also 9-1 in the circle with a 1.56 ERA. She has struck out 50 batters in 11 appearances.
For the Rambelles,
Lanie Robinson has been the team's best hitter. The junior is hitting .459 on the season with 17 hits. She has scored six runs and recorded seven RBIs. The Hitchcock native has drew six walks and twice been hit by a pitch. Robinson is getting on base at a .556 percentage which is the highest on the team.
Micherie Koria leads ASU in runs scored with 17 and tied for 23 hits. The senior is the conference leader in stolen bases (20) and sacrifice hits (8). The 1.0 stolen bases per game is No. 10 nationally this season. Koria hit her first home run of the season against Eastern New Mexico. The San Diego native has two doubles to go with 23 hits. She has also reached safely in 20-straight games and had eight multi-hit games this season.
The speed duo of
Ambra Hill and
Madison Greenwell and have combined to steal 18 bases on the year. Hill is hitting .424 this season with 14 hits and has scored 13 runs while Greenwell has a .418 average with 23 hits. The pair has eight RBIs a piece this season.
Megan Granado is coming off a stellar weekend after hitting .500 against UTPB and ENMU. The senior is hitting .412 on the season and is tied for the team lead with 12 walks. The Lubbock native is currently in the midst of a 12-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 13-straight games. Granado also leads the team with six doubles. She gets on base at a .516 clip and has hit two home runs.
Kenedy Urbany has provided the power this season with a team-high six home runs and 19 RBIs. The sophomore is averaging .400 at the plate with 22 hits. The Helotes native is tied for the team lead with 12 walks and has a team-high .818 slugging percentage.
Ciara Sheppard continues to produce as a freshman. The Midland native is hitting .387 with 12 hits and three doubles on the year. She has drove in seven runs and scored eight. Sheppard has also drawn eight walks while having the fewest strikeouts (1).
Tina Cisneros has 19 hits this season and has scored 10 runs. The senior has a .380 average to go with her four doubles, one triple and one home run. Fellow senior
Rachel Moore will look to get back on track. The Katy native has a .380 average with 19 hits. She is tied for second on the team with two home runs and four doubles. She had her 14-game reach base safely streak snapped last week.
Darian Dunn hit .386 last week including her first two home runs of the season to raise her average to .275 on the season. The junior has scored 11 runs and drove in 13 RBIs.
The pitching staff of
Brandy Marlett and Urbany went 5-1 and both sit at 9-1 on the season. The nine individual wins is currently No. 13 in NCAA Division II. Â The Rambelles hold the lower ERA in the conference at 1.25. Marlett is No. 4 nationally with four shutouts. She also leads the LSC with 67 strikeouts. Urbany has thrown seven complete games and shutout three opponents.
