SAN ANGELO – The No. 6 Angelo State softball team will travel to Denton to face Texas Woman's for a four game Lone Star Conference series starting on Thursday.
The Rambelles (21-5, 6-4 LSC) are coming off a 3-3 week against than No. 5 St. Mary's and No. 1 West Texas A&M. Angelo State swept No. 5 St. Mary's in a doubleheader before falling in three of four against No. 1 West Texas A&M. ASU is 5-1 on the road this season and it will be the second LSC road series of the year after taking three of four from ENMU.
ASU leads the LSC in pitching with a 1.95 earned run average and has the most shutouts with nine.
Brandy Marlett, who has six of the nine shutouts, had a week to remember. The LSC Co-Pitcher of the Week threw her first career no-hitter against St. Mary's. She followed it up with back-to-back double-digit strikeout performances against No. 1 West Texas A&M. The no-hitter is the eighth in program history and Marlett is just the second pitcher in school history to throw double-digit strikeouts in back-to-back games. She is 11-2 on the season and maintains a 0.93 earned run average. She leads the LSC in strikeouts with 95 and is No. 3 nationally with six shutouts.
Kenedy Urbany went 1-2 on the weekend but is still 10-3 on the season. She has struck out 37 batters this season in 76.2 ininngs of work. She has thrown 13 complete games and has a 2.37 earned run average.
The bats of the Rambelles are hoping to get hot after hitting just .219 last week and scored only 11 runs.
Micherie Koria and
Ciara Sheppard are the only two batters over .400 on the season. Koria is tops with a .409 average with 27 hits and 19 runs scored. Koria leads the LSC with 26 stolen bases on the season. The San Diego native has 10 multiple hit games but had a 25-game streak of reaching base safely snapped. They are the only two over .500 in on base percentage at .530 and .500.
Sheppard has a .405 average with 17 hits, three doubles and one home run on the year.
Madison Greenwell has the most hits on the team. She has 29 total hits and is second on the team with 12 stolen bases. The freshman has four doubles, two triples and scored 16 runs.
Tina Cisneros is fourth on the team in hits (25) and average (.385). She is second with five doubles. She tied for the most hits last week with six and was one of two with a home run.
Ambra Hill had four plate appearances last week but did score one run. The junior hit .378 and has scored 14 runs on the year.
Urbany added to her team lead in home runs with her seventh of the year. She is hitting .361 with 26 hits. The Helotes native leads the Rambelles with 22 RBIs.
Lanie Robinson is hitting .352 on the year with 19 hits. She has scored six runs and stroked two doubles.
Megan Granado recorded two RBIs and two doubles last week for ASU. She is hitting .343 on the year with 12 RBIs. The Lubbock native is tops on the team with seven doubles and has drawn 12 walks.
Rachel Moore has drawn a team-high 14 walks on the year. The Katy native is second on the team with 18 RBIs to go along with four doubles and two home runs. Darian
Dunn drew five walks last week to increase her total to 11 on the season. The junior has 13 RBIs this year and 14 hits.
TWU enters with a 12-12 overall record and 4-2 in the LSC. Nicole Nordie is the Pioneers top hitter with a .400 avearge. She has 36 hits, seven doubles, two triples and five home runs. She is second on the team with 22 RBIs. The pitching staff is led by Bailee Wortham who has appeared in 16 games. Wortham is 3-2 on the season with a 4.46 earned run average.
The Rambelles own a 40-9 series advantage and won all five meetings last season. ASU has lost four games in Denton including two in 2013.
Thursday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. and Friday's games will begin at 1 p.m.Â
