No. 6 Rambelles Face Road Test at UTPB

SAN ANGELO – The No. 6 Angelo State softball team will face its first road test of the season with a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday in Odessa against UTPB with first pitch at 4 p.m.

The Rambelles are 13-1 and 2-0 in the LSC after a doubleheader sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville. ASU recorded a combined 21 hits over the two games and 13 runs. The pitching staff struck out 13 Javelina batters and only allowed two runs. The 13-1 start is the best start to the season since the Rambelles went 23-1 in 2001.

The Falcons are 4-13 on the season and 2-5 at home. UTPB is hitting .265 as a team and the pitching staff has an 8.08 earned-run average. Mallory Hall leads the Falcons with a .373 batting average. She has 19 hits, one double and three TBIs. JJ Box Oesen is the top RBI leader with 15 on the season. Holly Herrington is 2-5 in the circle with a team-best 4.70 ERA.

The Rambelles are 19-2 all-time against UTPB and have won the last four matchups.

ASU has a team earned run average of 0.70 and have only allowed a total of 22 runs. Only nine of the runs have been earned and opponents are being limited to a .174 batting average. The duo of Brandy Marlett and Kenedy Urbany are 13-1 and has combined to strike out 74 batters this season. The two are also No. 1 and No. 2 in the LSC in earned run average. Marlett leads the Rambelles with four shutouts and 46 strikeouts. Urbany has two shutouts and limits teams to just a .168 batting average.

The offense has been led by a LSC leading team average of .373 and has scored 105 runs through 14 games. The duo of Micherie Koria and Lanie Robinson have both hit .500 this season. Koria has scored 11 runs and recorded eight RBIs while reaching safely in 14-straight games. She leads the team with 11 RBIs and hit her second double of the season. Robinson, who went 4 for 5 against TAMUK, is 10 for 20 on the season. She has two doubles and four RBIS. The Hitchcock native has the No. 2 on-base percentage in the conference at .583.

Rachel Moore is tied for the team lead with 14 RBIs and has reached safely in all 14 ASU games this season. . The senior is hitting .474 with a team-high four doubles and two home runs. She is tops on the team with a .737 slugging percentage.

Madison Greenwell has scored the most runs this season with 13 and has the most hits with 19. She is hitting .463 with two doubles and two triples. She is second on the team with a .610 slugging percentage. She has eight stolen bases on the year. Fellow speedster Ambra Hill has a .444 batting average and has scored 10 runs. The junior is a perfect six for six in stolen bases and is one of four Rambelles with a triple.

Urbany is tied for the team lead with 14 RBIs. She is hitting .425 and hit her third home run of the season against TAMUK. The sophomore has hit three doubles, one triple and scored drawn seven walks on the year.

Megan Granado has the current longest hitting streak at seven games. She leads the Rambelels with nine walks and tied for the team lead with four doubles. She has scored five runs and batting in four RBIs as well. The senior has pitched one inning this season and did not allow a hit or run.

Tina Cisneros had the best weekend for ASU going five for six with a double and two RBIs. She is hitting .333 on the season with two doubles, a triple and a home run. Darian Dunn has struggled as of late. The junior is only hitting. 219 with seven hits. She has scored seven runs and recorded nine RBIs. 

Ciara Sheppard hit her first career home run this last weekend. The freshman hit a two-run blast to left center and added four RBIs on the weekend. The Midland native is hitting .300 on the year with five RBIs and four runs scored. Fellow freshman, Camry Weinheimer, started both games at catcher for ASU. The freshman is hitting .364 on the year with eight hits, two doubles and one home run. She has recorded eight RBIs and has scored four runs. 

The matchup is the first of two doubleheaders between the two schools. UTPB will come to Mayer Field on Wednesday, April 8 for a return trip.
