No. 14 Rambelles Host Texas A&M-Commerce in Final Home Series

SAN ANGELO – The No. 14 Angelo State softball team will play its final home games of the season this Friday at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. against Lone Star Conference opponent Texas A&M-Commerce at Mayer Field.  

The Rambelles are 28-11-1 overall and 10-9-1 in the LSC. Angelo State has a 15-5 record at Mayer Field this year. ASU has the lowest ERA in the league at 2.46 over 40 games and is No. 11 nationally in on base percentage with a clip of .421. The NCAA Division II South Central Regional rankings have the Rambelles at No. 3. The top eight teams advance to one of two NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships.

Prior to the games on Saturday, ASU will honor four seniors in Tina Cisneros, Megan Granado, Micherie Koria and Rachel Moore.

Cisneros has played the last two seasons for the Rambelles after transferring from New Mexico State. She has played in 88 games with a .340 career batting average. She has 82 hits, scored 21 runs and recorded 57 RBIs. This season the senior has started 37 of 38 games hitting while hitting a team high .393 average. The Dripping Springs native has 42 hits, 12 doubles, one triple and three home runs. Cisneros has a .607 slugging percentage and has drawn 13 walks.

Granado, a second team All-LSC selection last year, has started 93 of 96 games during her two-year career at Angelo State. The Howard College transfer has a .320 career average with 87 hits, 25 doubles and eight home runs. The Lubbock native has played catcher, second base, short stop and has pitched during her career. This season she is hitting .345 with 38 hits, a team high 13 doubles and two home runs. The senior has 18 RBIs, 19 walks and scored 21 runs this year.

Micherie Koria, has started all 93 games she has played in during her two year career at second base and centerfield. She was named a 2014 Daktronics All-American and has hit an average of .393. The San Diego, Calif., native has recorded 96 hits, 11 doubles, one triple and two home runs. She is tied for the ASU single-season record for sacrifice hits with 14 and No. 3 on the ASU career list for sacrifice hits with 27. Koria has hit .350 this year with a .476 on base percentage.  She has stolen 31 bases this year and has 60 for her career.

Rachel Moore has played three seasons at ASU and started 132 of 142 games. She earned All-LSC third team honors the last two seasons.  She has a .337 career average with 132 hits, 22 doubles and 24 home runs. The 65 career walks is ninth all-time in ASU history. The Katy native has hit .310 this season with 27 hits, four doubles and two home runs. She leads the team with 22 walks and has driven in 20 RBIs. Moore also hasl scored 17 runs and has a .445 on base percentage.

A pair of freshmen have stepped up at the plate with average of over .350. Madison Greenwell, who leads the team in hits with 48, is second on the team with a .384 average. She is currently on a 16-game hitting streak  and has 10 multi-hit games. The Flower Mound native has scored 21 runs and recorded three doubles and three triples. She has 18 stolen bases to go along with 12 RBIs. The other freshman is Ciara Sheppard with a .362 average. The Midland native has 21 hits, five doubles and one home run. She has scored 13 runs and drawn nine walks on the season.

Kenedy Urbany, who sees action at the plate and as a pitcher, is the team leader with a .685 slugging percentage. She is hitting .351 on the year with 39 hits. The Helotes nine home runs and 32 RBIs are tops on the team and she has added six doubles and two triples on the year. Urbany has drawn 18 walks and scored21 runs this season. In the circle, the sophomore is 12-7 with a 2.92 earned run average. She has three shutouts and 12 complete games. Opponents are being held to a .272 average on the year.

Brandy Marlett is the other key in the circle this season. The freshman is 16-4 with a league low 1.56 ERA. She has league high 129 strikeouts and is limiting teams to a .200 batting average. She is ranked No. 1 with six shutouts and No. 42 in ERA. She was named one of 25 finalists for the NFCA Division II Freshman of the Year.

Lanie Robinson and Ambra Hill are both hitting .315 on the season. Robinson has 29 hits with four doubles while Hill has 17 hits, one doubles and two triples. They have combined for 24 RBIs and scored 25 runs. Hill has stolen 10 bases while Robinson has a .394 on base percentage.

Camry Weinhemier has started 23 games behind the plate this eason. She has 21 hits, seven doubles and one home run. The freshman has 17 RBIs and drawn 10 walks on the year.

Texas A&M-Commerce is 23-19 overall and 12-10 in its first season of softball. Meagen Lynch leads the Lions at the plate with a .384 average and 48 hits. Courtney Moore is 3-4 in the circle but is tops in ERA with a 2.49 in 16 appearances.

The entire four game Lone Star Conference series will be broadcasted locally on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call.
