SAN ANGELO – The No. 13 Angelo State softball team will play its final regular season series of the season in Lawton against Cameron with doubleheaders scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
The Rambelles improved to 32-11-1 overall and 14-9-1 in the LSC after a four-game sweep of Texas A&M-Commerce. Angelo State moved up to No. 2 in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional rankings and continues to lead the LSC in pitching with a 2.37 earned run average. ASU is currently sitting at No. 3 in the LSC standings.Â
The pitching duo of
Brandy Marlett and
Kenedy Urbany had a stellar weekend combining for a 1.50 ERA and only allowing 21 hits through four games. Urbany went 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA in two complete games. She only allowed two earned runs while striking out eight. The sophomore has a 14-7 overall record and a 2.71 ERA. She has pitched 129.0 innings in 21 appearances. Marlett went 2-0 as well against TAMUC with a 2.00 ERA. She struck out 18 batters and now has 145 on the season. The 145 strikeouts is the seventh most in a single season in ASU history. She is also No. 5 on the ASU single season list for strikeouts with seven. The Henderson native is No. 16 nationally in shutouts (6) and No. 32 in hits allowed (5.09) and No. 43 in ERA (1.60).
The Rambelle offense received some big help from freshman
Camry Weinheimer. The Fredericksburg native went 5-for-12 on the weekend and recorded eight RBIs. She had two home runs and hit a game winning two-run single in game four to complete the sweep. Weinheimer is hitting .325 on the season with 26 hits, seven doubles and three home runs. She is now second on the team with 25 RBIs.
Micherie Koria, who is hitting .361 on the season, stroked two doubles in game three that brought in runs. She scored two runs and stole four bases on the weekend. The senior has 39 hits, four doubles, one triple and one home run on the year. She leads ASU with 24 runs scored and is No. 16 nationally and No. 1in the LSC with 35 stolen bases.
Madison Greenwell leads ASU with a .374 average and 52 hits. She has hit six doubles and three triples while stealing 18 bases. The freshman has scored 22 runs and brought in 13 RBIs. Greenwell took
Tina Cisneros top spot for average. Cisneros is now hitting 368 on the year with 43 hits, 12 doubles, one triple and three home runs. She has 23 RBIs, 15 walks and scored 20 runs.
Urbany had five hits against TAMUC including a solo home run in game one. The Helotes native is hitting .361 with a team high slugging percentage of .689. She leads ASU with 10 home runs while adding six doubles and two triples. The sophomore has drawn 19 walks and is tops on the team with 33 RBIs.
Ciara Sheppard and
Megan Granado have .333 and .325 batting averages, respectively. Sheppard has 22 hits, five doubles and two runs to go along with 16 runs scored. Â Granado, the team leader with 13 doubles has 40 total hits. She has scored 24 runs and drove in 19 RBIs on the season. She also leads ASU with 21 walks.
Lanie Robinson hit .429 in the TAMUC series to improve her average to .323 on the season. She has 32 hits, four doubles and has drove in 15 RBIs.
Ambra Hill is hitting .302 with 19 hits, one doubles and two triples. She has scored 17 runs.
Rachel Moore has a .297 season average with 30 hits. She has four doubles and hit three home runs. She started the TAMUC series with a solo home run in the bottom of the first in game one. The senior has scored 18 runs and has recorded 22 RBIs. Moore leads the team with 22 walks on the year.
Cameron, who is No. 6 in the most recent NCAA Division II South Central Regional rankings, is 35-14 on the season with a 13-11 LSC record. The Aggies have the second-best batting average as a team in the conference at .354. Breezy McComas has the best average on the team with a .403. A total of five Cameron hitters have at least 10 home runs led by Tara Martini's 18. Kelsey Watson leads things in the circle with a 16-5 overall record and a 2.94 ERA. She has recorded 140 strikeouts on the year in 29 appearances. The
