No. 22 Rambelles Set for LSC Tournament Championship in Canyon

SAN ANGELO – The No. 22 Angelo State softball team will play Cameron in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Canyon.

The Rambelles ended the regular season at 33-14-1 overall and 15-12-1 in the LSC. ASU enters the LSC Tournament Championship as the No. 5 seed for the tournament and as the No. 5 seed in the most recent NCAA Division II South Central Regional ranking. Angelo State is 5-1 on neutral fields this season and will face Cameron for the fifth time this season. ASU won the 2014 LSC Tournament Championship and has a total of six LSC Tournament titles since 2002.

The program is also on the verge of a milestone with two wins this weekend. The Rambelles have a 598-210-1 overall record since the program restarted in 2002.

Cameron, the No. 4 seed in the LSC and the South Central Regional rankings, 38-15 overall and took three of four from ASU last weekend in Lawton, Okla. The Aggies scored 29 runs on 37 hits in the four-game series.  CU hit nine home runs in the series and limited ASU to just seven runs. ASU holds a 24-6 all-time series advantage.

The winner of the Angelo State and Cameron game will face No. 3 West Texas A&M at 6:30 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to the final at 2 p.m. on Saturday. All of the Rambelle games will be carried locally on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call.  

The Rambelles pitching staff has been stellar this season and is tied for the lead league with a 2.79 earned run average. Kenedy Urbany, who is 15-8 this season, won the first game of the series against Cameron. She only allowed three runs and six hits while striking out two. On the season, Urbany has a 2.89 ERA in 26 appearances. She has recorded three shutouts, struck out 67 batters and limits opponents to a .265 batting average. Brandy Marlett has been dominant this season with an 18-5 record. She is the LSC leader in ERA (2.01), opposing batting average (.209) and strike outs (149). Her 149 strikeouts rank her at No. 6 in ASU history in a single season. The freshman has six shutouts and only allows 5.36 hits per game. Her 6.66 strikeouts per seven innings are the second highest in a single season at ASU. She has thrown 20 complete games which eight most in program history.

At the plate, freshman Madison Greenwell leads the team with a .367 average and 55 hits. She has seven doubles and three triples. The Flower Mound native had a season-long 20-game hit streak earlier this season. She is second on the team with 18 stolen bases and has scored 22 runs on the year. Greenwell is also the only player to record four hits in a single game this season. Another freshman, Ciara Sheppard, is No. 2 in average at .354. The Midland native has 23 hits, five doubles and two home runs on the year. She has scored 17 runs and dorve in 11 RBIs. Sheppard has drawn 10 walks on the year as well.

Micherie Koria set the single season record for sacrifice hits with her 15th to pass Laura Lopez. The senior is hitting .353 with 41 hits, four doubles, one triple and one home run. She leads the LSC with 36 stolen bases and is No. 17 nationally in the category. The San Diego native has a team-high 14 multiple hit games.

Urbany, who leads the team with a .662 slugging percentage, has a .353 average. She is also the team leader in home runs (10) and RBIs (33). The sophomore has 12 multiple hit games and seven multiple RBIs game.

Tina Cisneros has a .349 average of the season with 44 hits. The senior has the second-most doubles (12) on the team and has added one triple and four home runs on the season. She has drove in 25 RBIs and scored 21 runs while drawing 16 walks on the year. The Dripping spring native is tops on the team with eight multiple RBI games.

Megan Granado has played five different positions this player including third base, second base, shortstop, catcher and pitcher. She is hitting .336 on the year and has 44 hits. The senior has recorded 11 multiple hit games and three multiple RBI games. She is second on the team with 21 walks and has scored a team-high 25 runs.

Ambra Hill had the best weekend against Cameron going 3-for-5 on the weekend and scoring one run. The junior is hitting .324 with 22 hits, one double and two triples. She has scored 18 runs and drove in 10 RBIs. She is third on the team in stolen bases with 12.

Camry Weinheimer is hitting .318 on the year with 28 hits. She has seven doubles and three home runs. The freshman has drove in 25 RBIs and scored seven runs on the year. She is tied with Cisneros with eight multiple RBI games. Lanie Robinson has a .311 average and 32 hits on the year. The junior has recorded four doubles and drove in 23 RBIs.

Rachel Moore led the Cameron series off with her fourth home run of the season last Friday. The senior is hitting .297 with 33 hits and four doubles. She has 23 RBIs 19 runs scored and has a team-high 26 walks.

The Rambelles could see some production off the bench from Kylie Love, Lauryn Donnelly, Katlyn Herzong, Brooke Mangold or Kelly Johnson.
