Belles Volleyball Finish Tournament Strong with Two Sweeps

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – After coming off a strong Friday performance, Angelo State volleyball sweeps both the University of New Haven and American International College to cap off the 2015 International Hall of Fame Invitational undefeated for the tournament.

The Belles (12-3, 1-0 LSC) would kick off the day facing a determined New Haven team with sophomore Abbie Lynn scoring the first kill that set off a 7-0 run. New Haven advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight last season. ASU would not look back for the remainder of the first set maintaining the lead throughout to finish with a set final of 25-11.

The second set saw ASU continue to dominate with Maggi Jo Keffury serving up 13 assists to her fellow Belles who took advantage and closed out the set 25-16.
The Belles would continue their stellar play into the third set where they got rolling with a 5-0 run. The Chargers would battle back to tie at 10, but Taylor Lee Seaton stifled the run with a kill with an assist from Alyssa Orr. Angelo State would go on to win the match 25-21.

This match saw team kill leaders Mallory Blauser (204) and Brianna Sotello (184) continue to add to their 2015 season totals with both chalking up nine total kills for the match. Zoey Hanrahan set a career high hitting percentage of .778 in a match followed closely by Mallory Blauser who hit a season high .500.

"We played pretty well today," ASU head volleyball coach Chuck Waddington said. "Our defensive transition was excellent. We served tough and put a lot of pressure on the opposition."

ASU would then finish off their day and the tournament with its second sweep versus tournament hosts American International College (6-6, 0-1 NE-10).
After giving up the first point of the set on an attack error, a kill from Morgan Seaton would get the Belles rolling on a 10-1 run. With several key blocks from Sotello, Hanrahan, and Keffury, ASU would hold the Yellow Jackets to 10 points, ultimately taking the set 25-10.

The second set of this match would prove to be more of a challenge for the Belles as the two teams traded points throughout the set. However, Sotello once again helped push the Belles into intermission with a 25-18 set victory and a 2-0 lead over American International.

To cap off the sweep and ad 4-0 record at the tournament, ASU would come up big holding the Yellow Jackets to only 11 points with a key block by Taylor Lee Seaton and Cerbi Ritchey.  Orr would then put away the final set and the match with a kill served up by Brooke Robertson.

"Everyone got to play in both matches today. It was a complete team effort. They really rose to the occasion in this tournament. I am very proud of them," Waddington would add about today matches.

ASU went undefeated for the tournament with several Belles receiving tournament honors. Katie MacLeay earned tournament MVP honors while Mallory Blauser and Maggi Jo Keffury received all-tournament honors.
The Belles will continue their Lone Star Conference schedule on Wednesday September 22nd in Commerce against the Texas A&M – Commerce at 6 p.m.
