SAN ANGELO – The No. 10 Angelo State volleyball team embarks on a two game road trip this weekend against Texas Woman's on Friday, October 21 at 7 p.m. and Texas A&M – Commerce on Saturday, October 22 at 2 p.m.
After a pair of sweeps last week, the No. 10 Belles improved to 18-2 overall and 9-1 in the Lone Star Conference. ASU's last win placed the Belles on a five-match win streak. The team's high powered offense leads the conference with a .267 team hitting percentage and an outstanding 14.37 kills per set. The Belles stout defense has also shined as it has held opponents to a conference low .139 clip.
ASU swept the Pioneers earlier this season and continues to lead the all-time series 37-14. In the last match up between the two teams the Belle defense held TWU's attack to a .056 clip and limited them to only a single ace. TWU is currently sitting at 7-13, 3-8 LSC on the season and will be seeking to build off its last 3-2 road win over Cameron.
The Belles also swept Texas A&M – Commerce in the last match between the two teams. It was the ASU defense that came up big in this match as well as it held the Lions to a .072 hitting percentage. TAMUC trails in the all–time series 42-21 and is currently riding a two match losing streak. The cats are boasting a 12-10 overall record and are 6-5 in the LSC.
The trio of Mallory Blauser, Brianna Sotello and Abbie Lynn continue to lead the Belles offensive attack. Blauser continues to play a main role in the Belles attack as they swept both opponents this week. The senior led the ASU offense this week with 29 total kills averaging 4.83 kills per set and a .400 hitting percentage. Blauser is currently second in the conference dropping in 4.42 kills per set. Also coming through big from the service line for ASU this week, she tallied four aces. Defensively, the Round Rock, Texas native chalked up 15 digs and five blocks against the opponents. Sotello is currently second on the team as she averages 3.19 kills per set. The junior has tallied 10 matches this season with double figure kills on offense. The well-rounded outside hitter also currently leads the Belles defense with 228 digs and a 3.40 digs per set average on the season. Completing the trio, Lynn is third on the squad with a 2.48 kill per set average and is carrying a solid .295 hitting percentage in 2016.
Anchoring the defense will be Morgan Seaton and Mallory Davidson. Seaton led the team this past week with a season-high nine blocks against the Eastern New Mexico. The middle blocker leads the team overall with 58 blocks for an average of .87 per set. She has also helped the offense with a team fourth 128 kills on the year. Davidson, who has been turning in excellent numbers since taking over the starting libero slot back on October 1. She has quickly climbed to second on the team with 193 total digs averaging the sophomore 3.02 digs per set.
Meghan Parker distributed for the Belles racking up 68 assists for the week as she continues to hold on to the top spot in the LSC. This averaged her 11.33 assists per set. The freshman continues to lead the LSC with a total average of 11.75 assists per set this season. From the service line Parker co-led the squad with four aces on this past week and continues to lead the squad with 26 total aces on the season. She has also assisted the defense with 2.24 digs per set in 2016 and turned in 10 digs against last week's opponents.
Leiyona Young, Tulani Titley and Micheala Sifuentes will add depth to the court for the Belles. Young is second on the team with 40 total blocks and is leading the team averaging .93 blocks per set. Titley has recorded 32 blocks on the season and has assisted the offense with a team fifth 1.77 kills per set as a freshman. Finally, Sifuentes turned in 13 digs this past weekend and is fourth on the Belles with 182 total digs on the year. Her 3.37 digs per set average is second on the ASU roster.
