SAN ANGELO - The No. 10 ranked Angelo State volleyball team swept Tarleton State (25-21, 25-16, 25-16) Wednesday night in the Stephens Arena at the Junell Center for the team's eighth straight win.
The Belles (21-2, 12-1 LSC) are undefeated in 10 matches at home this year, and have swept eight of their 10 opponents in the Junell Center in 2016.
"Defensively, we really stuck to our game plan tonight," ASU head volleyball coach Chuck Waddington said. "I was really pleased with our execution throughout the match because it allowed us to put them in predictable situations."
Mallory Blauser led the team once again in kills in the match with 12. Blauser added in a team-second 13 digs on the night as well to give her a double-double, and the senior led the team in service aces with two.
Second on the team in kills was Brianna Sotello with 10, and the junior also ended the match with a double-double, tallying 12 digs in the match. Sotello made just one hitting error on the night and finished with a clip of .360 against the TexAnns.
Morgan Seaton finished close behind Sotello with eight kills on the night and Abbie Lynn and Tulani Titlley each helped the offense as well with seven kills apiece. Titley's seven kills came on just 10 total attacks, giving her a phenomenal attack percentage of .700 on the evening.
Overall, the Belles attacked at a .278 clip and had five total service aces to just one for TSU.
Setting up the Belles' 44 total kills was freshman Meghan Parker, who finished the night with 40 assists. Parker also added in 6 digs to aid the defense.
"Our balance offensively was great," Waddington said. "We had a lot of kids hitting for high percentages and Megahn Parker did a nice job distributing."
Leading the defense was libero Mallory Davison, who had 18 of the team's 61 digs on the night, and Titley who was first on the team in blocks with six. Overall, ASU held TSU to a measly .111 hitting percentage on 126 total attacks.
The Belles started strong, using a kill from Abbie Lynn to get the game's first point, and then using four point run to take an early 6-3 lead. ASU slowly increased its lead to six at 14-8 and then used another 4-0 run to go up 18-9. The TexAnns attempted a comeback late in the set, using a 9-1 run to bring the match within two at 23-21. An attacking error from Tarleton State and a kill by Brianna Sotello gave ASU the next two points, however, and the Belles took a 1-0 lead into set two.
Tarleton State earned the first point of the second set and held onto the momentum at the start, taking an early 6-4 lead. ASU rattled off another four-point run to take the lead, however, and never relinquished it after that. The Belles' biggest lead came at 24-14, and after two TSU points, an attacking error gave the Belles set two as well, 25-16.
The third set told almost the exact same story as the second early on, with the TexAnns going up 6-4 and the Belles then taking control. Angelo State used a 9-2 run in the middle of the match to give itself some breathing room, and the Belles finished off the TexAnns on a service ace from Mallory Blauser, winning 25-16.
Angelo State will remain at home for its next two games, hosting West Texas A&M at 7 p.m. Friday night before facing Texas Permian Basin at 2 p.m. Saturday.
