SAN ANGELO -Â The Angelo State volleyball team remained undefeated at home and won its tenth straight game overall with a sweep of Texas Permian Basin (25-13, 25-15, 25-19) Saturday afternoon in the Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.
The Belles moved to 23-2 on the season overall with a 14-1 showing in conference play. ASU was led by a strong defensive showing one again, holding the Falcons to a hitting percentage of -.017 in the match and recording nine total blocks to just one for UTPB.
Morgan Seaton led the defense once again with four total blocks bringing her to 77 on the year. Mallory Blauser finished with four block as well, and setter Meghan Parker ended the match right behind with three.
Libero Mallory Davidson also turned in another strong defensive performance with 18 digs on the night, taking over as the team leader with 295 this season. Â Blauser finished right behind Davidson with 17 digs in the match, and Parker turned in a respectable nine as well, falling just one dig short of a double-double.
Along with her strong defensive performance, Blauser also led the team on offense as well, dropping in 13 kills at a .464 clip to give her a double-double in the match. Freshman Tulani Titley turned in a strong offensive showing as well, hitting .417 in the match on her way to a tie for the second most kills on the team with six. Abbie Lynn had six as well, and the junior was the third and final ASU player to hit over .400 on the day. Â One other Belle had six kills on the day in freshman Ali Davison, which marked a season high for the Round Rock native.
Meghan Parker was the assist leader on the day, setting up 29 of the point for the Belles in the match. At 978 assists, Parker has now already moved into the top ten all-time in assists at ASU in just her freshman year.
ASU came out on fire to start the match, scoring the game's first four points to take an early lead that it would never give up. The Belles used a 5-1 run in the middle of the set to extend their lead and finished off the Falcons with an 11-2 run that ended the set, 25-13.
Set two started with much of the same, as Angelo State scored the first seven points and 10 of the first 11 to take a 10-1 lead. The smallest Falcon deficit the rest of the set was five points, but the Belles would finish off the set on a 4-1 run that ended it, 25-15.
The Belles started the third set on top as well, but the Falcons kept it close at the start, forcing a tie at 4-all. Angelo State scored six of the next seven points to give itself some breathing room. UTPB would not go down easily, though, using a 7-1 run in the middle of the match to take its first lead all day. ASU stayed in the match, however, and seven-point run pushed the Belles into the 20s and back into the lead. ASU would score three of the final four points and finish off the Falcons 25-19 in the closest set of the day.
"We have to maintain our standards no matter what is happening on the court, and we did that today," ASU head volleyball coach Chuck Waddington said. "It doesn't matter who is out there, we have to perform at a certain level."
ASU has a quick turnaround before its next games, as the Belles will travel to Kingsville for two matches on Tuesday. The day will be a double-header for ASU as they take Texas A&M-Kingsville at 1 p.m. and then Texas A&M International at 4 p.m.Â
