SAN ANGELO – No. 22 Angelo State volleyball will look to rebound with a pair of home matches as it faces off against Texas A&M –Commerce and Texas Woman's this weekend.
The Belles, which currently sit at 13-6, 5-5 LSC on the year, will begin the two match homestand with Texas A&M –Commerce on Friday, October 20 at 7 p.m. ASU fell in five set to the Lions on the road in the last meeting between the two and will be seeking revenge. TAMUC is currently sitting second in the conference with an 8-2 LSC record and has a 13-7 overall record. The Lions also head the conference along the net with a 2.23 block per set average.
ASU will then continue on Saturday, October 21 taking on Texas Women's at 2 p.m. The Pioneers are currently 10-10 overall and 7-4 in the Lone Star Conference heading into the weekend. TWU will make a stop in Stephenville, Texas to face Tarleton State prior to heading to San Angelo. The last meeting between the Belles and Pioneers resulted in a five set loss for ASU.
Angelo State will look to senior, Brianna Sotello, to lead them on both sides of the ball. The outside hitter head the attack with 4.03 kills per set and is second on the defense with 3.33 digs per set. This places her in the team lead with 10 double-doubles on the season. Sotello is also second in the conference with 282 total kills on the season. Along the net she has racked up a team second 27 blocks on the year.
Morgan Seaton will also provide production on both offense and defense. The senior middle blocker co-leads ASU with 28 blocks on the season and is fourth on the squad with a 1.79 kill per set average. She tallied 21 total kills for a .385 clip in last week's match ups. This included dropping in a team second 12 kills against Eastern New Mexico. Seaton also played a major role along the net last week as she chalked a team high eight total blocks.
Rounding out the offense's big hitters will be Anna Graham. With a 148 kills this season and a 2.43 kills per set average, Graham is third on the teams ranking this season. The sophomore has also excelled in the block department marking .89 blocks per set.
With the team facing some adversity, Eadara Files stepped into the starting role at setter for the Belles. The sophomore totaled 76 assists for the week which averaged her 8.44 digs per set. Coming off of a 39 assists match against Western New Mexico, which was a career high, she then recorded 37 assists and a career high 14 digs to mark her first double-double of the season against Eastern New Mexico. Files capped the week as she totaled 20 digs and added a block assist on the defensive side of the ball.
She will be joined by team assist leader Meghan Parker. The sophomore has tallied an 8.67 assist per set average thus far. She has also been a defensive asset to the team with a 2.13 dig per set average. Parker is only 40 assists away from settling into the eighth spot all-time on the career assists list for ASU.
Also heading the ASU defensive efforts with be Micheala Sifuentes. The libero continued to head the squad this past weekend with 42 total digs, which averaged her a stellar 4.20 digs per set. Sifuentes recorded a career high 27 digs against Western New Mexico. She leads the team for the year with 5.03 digs per set.
Adding depth to the Belles roster will be Ali Davison, Bailey Drum and Tulani Titley. Davison has step up big time for ASU in light of several injuries. The sophomore is averaging 2.15 digs per set and 1.62 kills per set this season, as she marked her first career double-double several matches ago. Drum has also been an offensive asset for the Belles as she sits fifth on the squad with 105 kills on the year and a 1.78 kill per set average. Defensively she has also marked 23 total blocks for the year. Finally, Titley has tallied 16 total blocks along the net and is averaging 1.68 kills per set.
