STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The No. 12 Angelo State women's basketball team lost to Tarleton State in the final 15 seconds 79-77 on the road on Saturday afternoon.

The Belles (18-4, 12-4 LSC) shot better from the field at 47.1 percent from the field and outrebounded the TexAnns (12-10, 11-5 LSC) 37-32. Tarleton State hit 41.2 percent from the 3-point line compared to 25 percent for ASU. Angelo State dominated in the paint 52-30 and scored 29 points off 18 TSU turnovers.

Jasmine Prophet led ASU with 22 points followed by 18 points from
Taylor Dorsey. Dorsey also added four assists six rebounds and two steals.
Christina Robinson chipped in 13 points for ASU.

The Belles had built a 58-51 lead going into the fourth quarter. ASU would lead by as many as 11 at 70-59 with 4:22 left in the game. The TexAnns used a 10-1 run to make it a one possession game at 71-69 with 1:44 to go.

The two teams traded buckets until a jumper by Robinson made it 77-73 with 16 seconds left. Tarleton State once again answered with a basket and an ASU turnover gave TSU the ball with seven seconds to go. A jumper by TSU's Travanti Downes tied the game with six seconds to go. The Belles tried to cover the length of the court but was called for a technical for attempting a timeout without any left. Bailey Wipff of Tarleton State hit both free throws to end the game at 79-77.

Tarleton State jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter 21-13. The Belles shot 33.3 percent compared to 53.3 percent for the TexAnns. The Belles would be down seven at numerous points but were able to answer with points in the paint. A Dorsey layup cut the deficit to 15-10 with 3:23 to go in the first quarter. The TexAnns closed the quarter on a 7-3 run.

The Belles found themselves down 30-16 half way through the second quarter. A Dorsey jumper followed by a layup from Prophet sparked a 17-4 run. Dorsey and Prophet combined for 13 of the 17 points to make Tarleton State's lead on one at 34-33 at the break.

Angelo State scored the first four points of the second half and hung on to a 37-34 advantage. The two teams battled exchanging leads until a pair of free throws by Prophet gave ASU a 47-46 lead. The Belles would end the quarter on a 12-5 run to go up 58-51 going into the fourth quarter.

The Belles will return home for the final two home games of the year on Thursday, Feb. 16 and Sunday, Feb. 18. ASU will wear its pink jerseys to raise awareness for cancer and the Play4Kay Foundation.
