No. 21 Rambelles Face First Conference Road Test in WNMU

SAN ANGELO – The No. 21 Angelo State softball team will face its first road conference series in Silver City, New Mexico, against Western New Mexico starting on Friday, Feb. 24.

The Rambelles are 13-1 overall and 3-0 in the LSC. ASU is hitting .343 this season with 26 doubles, four triples and 20 home runs. The offense has scored 101 runs this season and has a team on-base percentage of .441. ASU and WNMU will play four games total with the last contest on Sunday being a non-conference matchup.

The Mustangs are 0-14 on the season and 0-3 in the LSC. ASU and WMNU have only met one other time back in 2007 during a South Central Regional tournament. The Rambelles defeated WNMU 10-0.

The pitching staff has been stellar this season for the Rambelles. Kenedy Urbany, Morgan Hill and Brandy Marlett have combined for a LSC leading 1.83 earned run average and hold teams to a .160 batting average.

Urbany, the LSC Pitcher of the Week, is 5-0 on the season with a save. She has struck out 29 batters including a career-high 10 against TAMUK. In 35.2 inning pitched, Urbany has only allowed four runs and 19 hits. She is holding teams to a .146 batting average and maintains a 0.59 earned run average.

Hill has seen action in five games and is 3-0 with a 2.44 ERA. She has struck out 15 batters in 14.1 innings pitched. The junior has only allowed five runs on 11 hits this season.

Marlett has a 5-1 record on the season while holding a 2.67 ERA. She has struck out a LSC leading 54 batters in 42.0 innings pitched. She holds opponents to a .153 batting average and has only allowed 22 hits on the season.

Danae Bina leads the team in batting average at .419. She has recorded 13 hits and is tied for the team lead with four doubles and nine walks. She has scored a team high 14 runs and drove in six RBI. The Kansas native is tops on the team with a .561 on-base percentage as well.

Bailey Wallace has currently reached base safely in 14 straight games. The sophomore is hitting .410 on the season with 16 hits, two doubles and a home run. She has scored 13 runs and been hit by a pitch a team high six times.

Courtney Barnhill's .405 average is third on the team and she currently has the second longest reached base safely streak at 12 games. She has scored 13 runs while recorded 15 hits. The freshman has three double and two home runs while driving in eight RBI. Barnhill is perfect on the base paths stealing seven bases.

Karina Rocha, the LSC Hitter of the Week, leads the Rambelles with a .871 slugging percentage. She has a .387 average with 12 hits and five home runs. The freshman has scored 11 runs and drove in the second most RBI with 11. She is also tied for the team lead in walks with nine.

Madison Greenwell currently leads ASU with 17 hits on the season. She has recorded two doubles and three triple for her .370 average. The junior has scored six time and drove in six runners.

Urbany has been a force at the plate as well driving in a team leading 13 RBI. She has 16 hits, four doubles and five home runs this season. The senior is hitting .348 with a .761 slugging percentage. She also leads the team with five multiple hit games and five multiple RBI games.

Taegan Kirk has a .310 average with 13 hits, four doubles and two home runs. The sophomore is one of four players on the team to drive in at least 10 RBI.

Alexis Evans has recorded nine hits on the season with three doubles and two home runs. The senior has a .265 average and driven in 11 RBI while scoring six times. She has also drawn eight walks.

Katlyn Herzog is the one player on the team with at least one hit in every category. Of her four hits, she has one single, one double, one triple and one home run. She has driven in six RBI and walked five time this season.

Brooke Mangold has scored five runs this season for ASU and recorded two doubles on the season.

Amanda Ramage has a .500 average in six plate appearances off the bench this season. She has scored two runs. Megan Gordon, Kelly Johnson and Heather Reatherford have been vital scoring three runs each.

Friday's single game will begin at 3 p.m. CST followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m. CST. Sunday's non-conference game is scheduled for 1 p.m. CST.
