SAN ANGELO – The No. 2 Angelo State softball team will host Oklahoma Christian for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, March 16 starting at 3 p.m. before a showdown with No. 12 West Texas A&M for a three-game LSC series at Mayer Field on Friday, March 17 and Saturday, March 18.
The Rambelles are 26-1 on the season and 9-0 in the LSC. ASU was ranked No. 2 by the NFCA this week and are on a current 22 game win streak, the longest in program history. Opponents are only hitting .181 while ASU's pitching staff is maintaining a 1.71 ERA. Angelo State is hitting .358, No. 2 in the LSC, and scoring 8.18 runs per game.
The pitching staff has been stellar and Brandy Marlett was honored as the LSC Pitcher of the Week and the NFCA National Pitcher of the Week for her performance last week. The junior set the ASU record for single game strikeouts with 17 and went 3-0. She is 12-1 on the season with a 1.58 ERA. The Henderson, Nevada native leads the LSC with 122 strikeouts and has only given up 45 hits in 84.0 innings. She is limiting teams to a .153 batting average.
Kenedy Urbany is No. 2 in the LSC with a 1.17 ERA. She is 9-0 with a save on the season and six complete games. The senior has struck out 39 and only allowed 43 hits. She is holding opponents to a .189 average and has only given up 12 runs on the year.
Morgan Hill is 5-0 on the year in 11 appearances with a save. She has a 3.13 ERA and limiting teams to a .233 batting average in 31.1 innings of work.
The offense has led by LSC Hitter of the Week, Courtney Barnhill. The freshman is hitting .500 on the season and leads the team in hits (38), runs (29), doubles (8), home runs (8), RBI (30), walks (18), slugging percentage (.921) and on-base percentage (6.04). The Lubbock native is on a 10-game hit streak and has reached base safely in 25 straight games. She hits .586 with runners in scoring position and has 15 two-out RBI on the season while stealing 10 bases.
Bailey Wallace is second on the team with a .403 average. She has 27 hits, two doubles and two home runs. She has scored 26 runs on the year and driven in 15. The sophomore has been hit by 11 pitches on the year and is second on the team with a .512 on-base percentage.
Madison Greenwell is second on the team with 33 hits on the season. She is hitting .338 on the year with three doubles and three triples. She has scored 18 runs and stolen seven bases on the year.
Katlyn Herzog is right behind Greenwell with a .385 average. She has 10 hits, two doubles, one triple and two home runs on the year. The senior has scored six runs and has a .769 slugging percentage.
Taegan Kirk hit her fifth home run of the season against LCU on Monday. The sophomore has a .373 average and 28 hits on the year. She has scored 21 runs and is one of five players with at least 20 runs scored. She is tied for the team lead with eight doubles.
Danae Bina is tops on the team with 13 stolen bases. She has a .361 average with 22 hits and 24 runs scored. The junior has six doubles and one home run on the year while driving in 16. She is successful 60.5 percent of the time advancing runners.
Brooke Mangold has added some power to the lineup after hitting her second career home run against LCU. The junior is hitting .325 with 14 hits, two doubles and two home runs. She has scored 14 runs and driven in eight. She has stolen 11 bases and is one of three Rambelles with at least 10 stolen bases.
Karina Rocha and Alexis Evans have recorded 16 and 15 hits on the year, respectively. Rocha has five home runs while Evans has four doubles and three home runs. The two have combined to score 27 runs and driven in 34. The duo each has 17 walks on the year.
Others contributing for ASU include Kelly Johnson, Amanda Ramage, Megan Gordon, Heather Reatherford, Morgan Hill, Becky Wilhem and Jackie Montejano. Johnson has a .300 average with three home runs while Ramage has five hits and one double on the year. Gordon has recorded seven hits in 11 at-bats this season and Reatherford has scored nine runs.
Friday will be Youth Night at Mayer Field with all youth under the age of 12 accompanied by an adult will receive free admission. Saturday has been designated Military Appreciation with all active military and dependents and retired military with identification will receive free admission.
