SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's track and field team have four in the top five of the ASU Spring Break Multi Meet after the first day of competition at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.
Kami Norton, Adrine Monagi and Ashley Dendy are first through third place and Jordan Nash is fifth. Morgan Rodgers is only 123 points away from fourth place and sits in eighth.
Norton has the best first day score of 3,276 points and two NCAA Division II provisional marks. The junior started the day with a NCAA Division II provisional time of 14.04 in the 100-meter hurdles. She followed it up with another provisional mark of 5'-7" (1.70-meters) in the high jump. She threw a lifetime best in the shot put of 35'-4.50" (10.78-meters) and closed the day out with a 25.22 in the 200-meters.
Monagi ran a personal best of 14.31 to start the first day of the heptathlon in the 100-meter hurdles. She cleared 5'-1" (1.55-meters) in the high jump before throwing a personal best in the shot put of 36'-2.75" (11.04-meters) added 598 points to her score. She ended with a personal best time in the 200-meters of 25.19 for a score of 3,080 after four events.
Dendy is in third with 2,902 points. She clocked a 14.88 in the 100-meter hurdles and a 26.37 in the 200-meters in the heptathlon's two running events. She recorded a bar of 5'-2.25" (1.58-meters) in the high jump and threw a personal best of 35'-8.50" (10.58-meters) in the shot put.
Nash was able to record personal bests in both running events. The sophomore started with a 14.71 in the 100-meter hurdles and capped off the day with a PR of 25.72 in the 200-meters. She was able to throw the shot put 30'-10.25" (9.40-metets) and clear 4'-11.75" (1.52-meters) in the high jump. She finished day one with a score of 2,837 points.
Rodgers had a steady day with a first day score of 2,723 points. She opened with a 16.21 in the 100-meter hurdles and followed it with a bar of 5'-3.25" (1.61-meters) in the high jump. The Hamlin native tossed the shot put 35'-00.50" (10.68-meters) and covered 200-meters in 26.68.
The final day of the heptathlon will begin tomorrow at 1 p.m. at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field. Â
