SAN ANGELO – The No. 1 Angelo State softball team will host Texas Woman's for a three-game Lone Star Conference series at Mayer Field starting on Friday, March 24 at 6 p.m.
The Rambelles (32-2, 11-1 LSC) are coming off a doubleheader sweep of St. Edward's on the road. Head softball coach Travis Scott is on the verge of a pair of coaching milestones. He is one win away from 700 career coaching victories and two wins away from 600 at Angelo State. Scott is 699-254-3 (.731)Â in his career and is 598-204-1 (.744) at ASU.Â
Texas Woman's enters with a 20-11 overall record and 9-5 in the LSC. TWU is hitting .334 as a team while the pitching staff holds a 4.55 ERA.Â
ASU is hitting .328 as a team and scoring 6.9 runs per game which is No. 14 in Division II. The pitching staff has a team ERA of 1.49 and is holding teams to a .182 batting average. The 1.49 ERA is No. 8 in Division II and No. 1 in the LSC. The Rambelles' 14 shutouts are No. 1 in Division II. The offense has the No. 6 on base percentage of .442 and No. 8 in slugging percentage at .532.
The pitching staff of Morgan Hill, Brandy Marlett and Kenedy Urbany has been outstanding. Urbany is leading the staff with a 0.95 ERA and is a perfect 12-0 on the season. It is the 12th best ERA in the nation. She has only allowed 53 hits and is holding teams to a .178 batting average. The 13 runs allowed are tops in the LSC and she has struck out 54 batters.
Marlett is 15-2 on the season with a 1.37 ERA after throwing five innings of one-hit ball against St. Edward's. The junior has only allowed 59 hits in 107.0 innings and struck out the fourth most batters in Division II with 155. She has thrown eight complete games and three complete shutouts and six combined.
Hill is 5-0 on the season and added her third save of the season against SEU. She has pitched 37.1 innings and only allowed 37 hits and 19 runs. The junior is holding teams to a .255 average and has struck out 32 on the year.
The Rambelles are led in hitting by Courtney Barnhill's .438 average. She has a team-high 42 hits and eight home runs. The Lubbock native also leads the team with a .771 slugging percentage, a .546 on base percentage, 30 RBIs and 32 runs scored. The freshman also has 11 stolen bases and leads the team with a .486 average with runners in scoring position.
Bailey Wallace holds a .369 average with 31 hits, two doubles and two home runs. She is tied for second with 28 runs and has been hit by 15 pitches this year. She has broken the ASU career record with 45 hit by pitches.
Danae Bina went 3-for-7 against St. Edward's and drove in three runs to improve her average to .350 on the season. The junior has scored the second most runs with 26 on the season and has 28 hits. She leads the team with 17 stolen bases and has drawn 15 walks. The Kansas native has driven in 19 RBI has six doubles with one home run.
Madison Greenwell has 38 hits on the season and a .345 average. She has scored 21 runs and recorded three doubles and four triples. The Flower Mound native is one of six players with at least 10 walks with 11 and she has stolen eight bases on the season.
Taegan Kirk is hitting .337 average with 31 hits. Her one hit against St. Edward's was a two-run home run in game two. She holds the team lead with nine doubles and is tied for second on the team with six home runs. The Lubbock native has scored 23 runs and drawn 13 walks. The junior has 10 multiple hit games and nine multiple RBI games.
Urbany went 4-for-6 against St. Edward's and now has 31 hits on the season with seven doubles and six home runs. She has driven in 24 RBIs and scored 24 times. The Helotes native has drawn 12 walks and maintains a .583 slugging percentage.
Brooke Mangold is hitting .286 with 16 hits. She has three doubles and two home runs. The Castroville, Texas, native has 13 stolen bases on the year and has scored 15 runs.
Karina Rocha and Alexis Evans have 16 and 19 hits, respectively. Rocha has scored 15 runs and driven in 14 RBI while Evans has 24 RBI and scored 13 runs. Evans leads the team in walks with 23 on the year and Rocha has drawn 19 this season.
Others Rambelles that have contributed include Katlyn Herzog, Megan Gordon, Kelly Johnson. Heather Reatherford, Amanda Ramage, Hill, Becky Wilhelm and Jackie Montejano. Herzog is hitting .333 in 30 at-bats on the season. She has 10 hits, two doubles, one triple and two home runs. Gordon has seven hits while Reatherford has scored nine runs. Johnson has scored 10 runs on the year and driven in 10 RBI.
Friday night will be Youth Night as all kids under the age of 12 accompanied by an adult will receive free admission and Saturday the first 300 ASU students will receive a free t-shirt and fans are encouraged to wear gold.
