No. 17 Rambelles Welcome No. 3 St. Mary's to Mayer Field

SAN ANGELO – The No. 17 Angelo State softball team will host No. 3 St. Mary's in a doubleheader at Mayer Field on Wednesday, March 8. The game is designated as First Responders Night and all first responders and their dependents will receive free admission with valid identification.

The Rambelles are 19-1 on the season with a team batting average of .352. It is No. 2 in the LSC and No. 16 nationally. ASU is top 10 nationally being No. 6 in home runs per game (1.33 ), No. 8 in on-base percentage (.456) and No. 8 in slugging percentage (.593).

St. Mary's enters with a 17-3 record and a .286 batting average. The Rattlers have three pitchers with a 1.71 ERA or better on the season. Raynelle Nash leads the offense with a .365 average and Jordan Russel is 7-1 on the season with a 1.71 ERA.

ASU holds the all-time series 35-32 over St. Mary's and is 6-4 in the last 10 against the Lady Rattlers. St. Mary's has ended the Rambelles season in two of the last three years. 

The Rambelles pitching staff has a 1.72 ERA on the season and holding teams to a .173 batting average. Kenedy Urbay is 7-0 on the season with a save. She has thrown 47.2 inning pitched and only allowed 30 hits and nine runs. The 30 hits are No. 23 fewest in Division II. The Helotes native has struck out 36 and holding teams to a .170 average.

Brandy Marlett is 8-1 on the year with a 1.98 ERA. She leads the LSC with 80 strikeouts and holds opponents to a .153 average. She is ranked No. 7 nationally in strikeouts. She has only allowed 20 runs in 60.0 innings pitched.

Morgan Hill is 4-0 on the year with a 2.51 ERA. She has thrown 22.1 inning with 21 strikeouts. The junior has only given up nine runs on 19 hits. Opponents are being held to a .226 batting average.

Courtney Barnhill leads ASU in average at .456 and is No. 1 in the LSC with a .912 slugging clip. The freshman is tops on the team in hits (26), runs scored (21) home runs (7) and RBI (23). She is on a seven game hit streak and reached base safely in 18 straight games. She hits .516 with runners on base and .571 with runners in scoring position. Barnhill also has drawn 12 walks and stole eight bases.

Bailey Wallace is one of the hardest to strikeout in Division II and has reached base safely in 19 straight games. The sophomore is hitting .412 with 21 hits, two doubles and a home run. She has scored 19 runs and is one of six Rambelles  to drive in at least 11 RBI. She has stolen three bases and drawn three walks on the year. She also has a .516 on-base percentage. Wallace hits .417 with runners in scoring position and has a success rate of .655 on advancing runners.

Taegan Kirk is coming off a perfect 5-for-5 series against LCU. The sophomore is hitting .404 with 23 hits. She is tied for the team lead with six doubles and hit four home runs. The Lubbock native has driven in 21 RBI and scored 15 runs. She has a .719 slugging percentage and a .433 on-base percentage. Kirk leads the team with 14 two-out RBI and is on a four game hit streak.

Danae Bina is tied for the team lead with nine stolen bases. She has a .372 average and scored 18 runs on the season. She has 16 hits with five being doubles and 11 walks. The Kansas native hits .471 with runners in scoring position successful advances runners 57.1 percent of the time.

Madison Greenwell is No. 9 nationally in triples with three and tied for the LSC lead. She has 21 hits and scored 13 runs. The junior has a .350 average and a .435 on-base percentage. She also hits .524 with runners in scoring position.

Karina Rocha is third on the team with a .733 slugging percentage. The freshman hits .333 on the season with 15 hits. She has five home runs one double and one triple on the season. She has drawn the second most walks on the team with 12.

Katlyn Herzog and Kelly Johnson have seen action off the bench and starting. Both have driven in nine runs while Johnson has added scoring seven runs. Herzog has two home runs and a .727 slugging clip. She has also drawn five walks.

Urbany has 19 hits and tied for the team lead with six doubles. She has hit five home runs and has a season average of .311. The senior has scored 17 runs on the season and drawn five walks.

Brooke Mangold enjoys the number nine. The junior has nine hits, nine runs scored and nine stolen bases on the season. She also has two doubles and five RBI.

Alexis Evans has two home runs and four doubles this season. The senior has a team high 14 walks and maintains a .424 batting average.

The game will be carried on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call and televised on RamTV Suddenlink 6 or 106HD.
