SAN ANGELO – The No. 1 Angelo State softball team will host Midwestern State in a three-game Lone Star Conference series at Mayer Field starting on Friday, April 6 at 7 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday, April 7 starting at 1 p.m.
The Rambelles are 38-4 on the season and 15-3 in the LSC. ASU is hitting .312 as a team while maintaining a 1.43 ERA on the season. ASU is No. 6 nationally in ERA and No. 10 in both home runs per game (1.04) and on base percentage (.423).
Midwestern State enters with a 17-20 overall record and 8-13 in the LSC. The Mustangs are hitting .273 as a team and the pitching staff has a 3.85 ERA.
The pitching staff of Kenedy Urbany, Brandy Marlett and Morgan Hill has given ASU a chance to win every game this season. Urbany is 14-1 on the year and was a perfect and lowered her league leading ERA to 0.96 and has four shutouts with nine complete games. In 94.1 innings of work she has struck out 62 batters and only allowed 18 runs of which 13 are earned.
Marlett is 19-3 on the year with a 1.32 ERA. She is tops in the LSC with 189 strikeouts and struck out at least 10 batters eight times. She has only allowed 30 runs on the year. She is holding teams to a .150 batting average. Morgan Hill is 5-0 and notched her fourth save against Texas A&M International. She has 20 appearances and 45 strikeouts. She struck out a season high seven against the Dustdevils. The junior has only allowed 21 runs on 46 hits.
Offensively, Courtney Barnhill is leading the team as a starter with a .424 average. Megan Gordon has the team's best average in 18 at-bats sitting at .444. Barnhill, who is No. 2 in the LSC in average, is tops on the team with this (50), runs scored (36), home runs (10), on base percentage (.534) and slugging percentage (.763). The Lubbock native is also tied for the team lead with 36 RBI, 10 doubles, 25 walks and is second in stolen bases with 14.
Bailey Wallace has the second best average on the team at .343 and has 35 hits. She has scored 34 runs on the year and leads ASU with 35 hit-by-pitches. She also has laid down a team-high 11 sacrifice bunts.
Taegan Kirk is leading ASU with 12 doubles and tied for the team lead with 36 RBI. She is hitting .336 on the year with 35 total hits. The sophomore has drawn 13 walks and hits .333 with runners in scoring position. The Lubbock native has 10 multiple RBI games on the year.
Madison Greenwell is hitting .331 and has the second most hits on the team with 44. The junior has five doubles and a team-high 4 triples to go along with 13 walks and 25 runs scored.
Amanda Ramage is hitting .324 after a 3-for-4 game against Texas A&M International. She is hitting .324 on the season with 11 hits, two doubles and one home run. Â
Urbany and Dane Bina are right above .300 average at .310 and .317, respectively. Urbany has 36 hits, eight doubles and seven home runs on the year. Bina leads the team with 21 stolen bases and has drawn 15 walks on the year. She went 3-for-3 in the series finale with Texas A&M International. They both have scored 29 runs on the year and driven in a combined 51 RBI.
Other contributors include Alexis Evans, Katlyn Herzog, Brooke Mangold, Kelly Johnson, Karina Rocha, Becky Wilhelm, Heather Reatherford and Jackie Montejano. Wilhelm hit .667 against Tarleton State with one double and has driven in four RBI on the year. Reatherford has scored 10 runs and Herzog is hitting .294 with 10 hits. Mangold has 17 hits and scored 15 runs while driving in 12 RBI. Evans is tied for the team lead with 26 walks and driven in 25 RBI. Rocha has scored 16 runs on the year.
