SAN ANGELO – The No. 1 Angelo State softball team will face Lubbock Christian for the fifth time this season in the first round of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championship held at Mayer Field on Thursday, May 11 at 6:30 p.m.
The Rambelles enter the regional with a 52-5 record and are hosting a South Central Regional Tournament for the sixth time in program history. ASU is 29-2 at Mayer Field this season. Angelo State is hitting .317 as a team with a pitching ERA of 1.43.
Lubbock Christian, the No. 8 seed from the Heartland Conference, is 39-17 overall. The Lady Chaps are hitting .326 on the year with a 2.43 team pitching ERA. The two teams have played four times this season with ASU winning all four.
The pitching staff has been stellar this season only allowing 95 total runs in the season. Kenedy Urbany has led the staff in ERA at 1.14. She is 18-1 on the season with 11 complete games. She has allowed 28 runs this season and struck out 76 this season. Brandy Marlett has the most wins at 27-4 on the season and maintains a 1.26 ERA. The LSC Pitcher of the Year has struck out 274 batters and set the ASU single season and ASU career records for strikeouts. Morgan Hill is 7-0 on the year with a 2.40 ERA. She has thrown 64.0 innings and tied the ASU single season record for saves with six.
The offense has led by the LSC Freshman of the Year, Courtney Barnhill. The Lubbock native has hit .389 on the season with a team-high 63 hits. She leads the Rambelles with 48 RBI, 48 runs scored, 35 walks, .679 slugging percentage and a .505 on base percentage. She has 13 multiple RBI games and has reached base safely in nine straight games.
Taegan Kirk, the team leader in doubles with 19, has a .359 average. She has 56 hits and added seven home runs. The Lubbock native has scored 38 runs and driven in 47 on the season. She has a .615 slugging percentage and drawn 15 walks.
Madison Greenwell is hitting .351 on the season with a team high 65 hits. She has scored 38 runs while recorded nine doubles and five triples. She has stolen 11 bases on the season and drawn 19 walks.
Danae Bina leads ASU with 27 stolen bases on the season. She has a .336 average with 46 hits, nine doubles and one home run. She has scored 37 runs and drawn 20 walks.
Bailey Wallace, the ASU single season record holder and career record holder for hit-by-pitches, has a .329 average. She has recorded 46 hits and scored 33 runs. The Rockwall native has added three doubles and two home runs on the year.
Urbany has been solid at the plate with .323 average. She has 50 hits, 12 doubles and 11 home runs. The Helotes native has scored 38 runs, 40 RBI and drawn 33 walks. She is second on the team with 33 walks and has been hit by 11 pitches.
Alexis Evans is third on the team with nine home runs. She has also added 33 hits, four doubles and scored 24 runs.
Other Rambelles that have contributed include Amanda Ramage, Brooke Mangold, Karina Rocha, Katlyn Herzog, Kelly Johnson, Heather Reatherford, Becky Wilhelm and Jackie Montejano. Mangold has scored 22 runs and recorded 27 hits. Johnson and Reatherford have each scored 15 runs this season while Ramage has 15 hits, two doubles and two home runs.
