SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's volleyball team defeated West Texas A&M 3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 18-25, 15-9) to move to 18-7 (11-4 Lone Star Conference) and sweep WT for the first time since 2015.
The first set was a tight one, with WT recording an ace to get the 25-23 set win. The Belles came storming back in sets two and three, limiting WT to a hitting percentage of .042 on their way to taking a 2-1 lead. With their backs against the wall, WT came back with a great performance and dominated the fourth set, leading to the deciding fifth set. The Belles came out strong and outhit the Lady Buffs .261 to .043 to take the match.
Offensively, the Belles were led by Baleigh Allen, who posted 17 kills on 29 attempts for a hitting percentage of .552. Audrey Fragniere and Sundara Chinn were also in double digits with 13 and 10, respectively, and Sophia Berg added nine.
Defensively, the Belles had three players record at least 20 digs on the evening, led by Sundara Chinn's 27. Libero Chloe Robinson set a career high with 23, and setter Meghan Parker added 20. Makenna Hanssen and Morgan Preston were also in double digits with 13 and 11, respectively.
Baleigh Allen was a force to be reckoned with at the net, recording an astonishing 11 blocks for the first double double of her Belle career. Bailey Drum and Sundara Chinn each added six as the Belles set a season high for blocks in a match.
Setter Meghan Parker was her usual steady self, recording 49 assists for yet another double double. She added three service aces, adding to her conference leading total.
The Belles will have a quick turnaround as they battle Eastern New Mexico tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.
