SAN ANGELO – The No. 5 Angelo State softball team will host St. Edward's on Thursday, March 1 for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. with fireworks to follow the games courtesy of the Angelo State Office of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
The Rambelles enter the series with a 17-1 overall record while winning 16-straight games. ASU is No. 3 nationally in shutouts, No. 8 in slugging percentage, No. 9 in earned run average and No. 10 in home runs per game.
The Hilltoppers have a 0-11 record but face Texas A&M-Kingsville on Tuesday.
The duo of Morgan Hill and Brandy Marlett have shined this season. Marlett pitched her fourth career no-hitter against Western New Mexico. She went 3-0 over the weekend with a 0.00 ERA. On the season, the senior is 7-0 with a 1.15 ERA. The Henderson, Nevada, has struck out 48 batters on the year while limiting teams to a .176 ERA. Hill is 9-1 on the year with a 0.63 ERA. She has struck out 55 batters and only allowed five earned runs on the season. The pitching staff that also includes Makayla Corbin and Meagan Hill has only given up 25 total runs.
Bailey Wallace leads the team in average with a .478 on the year. She has 22 hits, three doubles, two home runs and scored a team-high 21 runs. She has driven in 12 so far with a .556 on-base percentage. The Rockwall native has stolen three of four bases and is third on the team in slugging with a .674 clip.
Karina Rocha added four more home runs to her season total of 11 and now leads NCAA Division II in the category. The sophomore has 18 hits with five doubles and is tops on the team in slugging (1.436) and on-base percentage (.632). She has 18 walks on the year while leading the nation in RBIs with 28. She has also scored 20 runs.
Madison Greenwell is tops on the team with 23 hits. She has four doubles, one triple and scored 15 runs. She is tied for the team lead with seven stolen bases.
Taegan Kirk is second on the team in RBIs with 25. The junior has 20 hits, six doubles and four home runs. She also has added 15 runs scored, three walks and a .745 slugging percentage.
Mykayla Stroud has 12 hits and a .300 average on the season. She has two doubles and two home runs. She has scored five runs while driving in eight on the season.
Danae Bina is tied for the team lead in stolen bases with seven on the year. She has 11 hits, one double, one triple and one home run on the year. The Kansas native has scored 14 runs and also drawn six walks.
Jade Strother hit .556 this past weekend to raise her season average to .333. She has recorded five hits and scored five runs while driving in one RBI.
Taylor Fogle is one of five Rambelles with double-digit RBIs with 10. She has six hits, two doubles and two home runs on the season.
Courtney Barnhill is hitting .353 with 12 hits, four doubles and two home runs. She has scored 12 and driven in 12 this season.
Brooke Mangold has nine hits on the season. The senior recorded her first triple of the year against WNMU to go along with one double on the season. She has scored seven runs and driven in seven as well.
Other Rambelles that will see action include Mylonee Becerra, Heather Reatherford, Megan Gordon, Amanda Ramage and Jacqueline Montejano.
