No. 2 Rambelles Host ASU George & Ola McCorkle Challenge

SAN ANGELO – The No. 2 Angelo State softball team will play host the ASU George & Ola McCorkle Challenge presented by Bahlman Cleaner starting on Friday, Feb. 9 at Mayer Stadium.

The Rambelles will open at home on Friday at 2:15 p.m. against Florida Tech followed by a matchup with Texas A&M International at 4:15 p.m. Saturday will be three games with the first being at 12 p.m. against Florida Tech followed by Adams State at 2:15 p.m. The night cap will be versus Texas A&M International at 6:15 p.m. The all ASU students will receive a free hot dog at softball the entire weekend and the first 100 ASU students on Friday will receive an ear fleece. It will also be Youth Weekend as all children 12 and under will receive free admission when wearing a youth league jersey and accompanied by an adult.

ASU is 4-1 on the season with a team batting average of .304. The Rambelles have scored 42 runs while limiting teams to just eight. Three of ASU's five games were decided by run rule and the only loss was to No. 8 Colorado Mesa.

Madison Greenwell led the offense with a .563 average. The senior was tops on the team in hits and added to her career leading mark with her 14th career triple. She scored six runs while also driving in three. The Flower Mound native stole a team high four bases had the second best on base percentage at .750.

Taegan Kirk recorded five hits, three of which for doubles, for a .417 average. She tied for the team lead in RBIs with seven and crossed the plate three times. The junior drew two walks and finished with a .667 slugging percentage.

Courtney Barnhill led the team in runs scored and tied for the team high in RBIs with seven each. She had five hits of which four went for extra bases. The Lubbock native leads the team with three doubles and she is second on the team with one home run. The sophomore drew two walks and stole a base over the weekend.

Karina Rocha recorded two home runs and three hits for a .333 average over the weekend. The sophomore drove in six runs while scoring four. She had a 1.000 slugging percentage and drew five walks. She has a streak of reaching base safely in five straight games.

Brooks Mangold was one of five that hit .333 for the weekend. The senior had three hits scoring all three times. She also drove in two runs and drew a walk. She added two stolen bases and was hit by a pitch.

Heather Reatherford and Mylonee Becerra each hit .333 in three plate appearances. Reatherford scored two runs and drove in two runs while Becerra recorded her first collegiate RBI.

Bailey Wallace was effective when she got on base scoring five of seven times. The junior recorded three hits, two walks and was hit by a pitch twice. She also drive in two runs as well. She is one of three Rambelles that have reached base safely in all five games.

Mykayla Stroud had two hits but one was a big one. The freshman hit her first collegiate home run which was a two run blast against Metro State.

Danae Bina scored six runs and reached base eight times. She has reached base safely in five straight games. She added two stolen bases, three walks and was hit by a pitch three times. She is third on the team with a .533 on base percentage.

Taylor Fogle's one hit was a big one. The junior hit a three-run home run in the season opener. The junior drew two walks and scored twice.

Jade Strother, Amanda Ramage, Megan Gordon and Jacqueline Montejano all received at-bats this weekend as well.

The pitching staff threw 29.0 combined innings and only gave up eight runs. Brandy Marlett with 2-0 with a 1.91 ERA in three appearances. She threw one complete game and held teams to a .195 batting average. The senior gave up four runs and struck out 14.

Morgan Hill went 2-1 in three appearances. In 13.0 innings of work she gave up only four runs and limited opponents to a .235 batting average. Hill struck out 15 and allowed two walks.

Meagan Hill and Maykala Corbin each saw their first collegiate action. Neither gave up a single run in five innings of work. Corbin pitched 1.1 innings and didn't allow a hit while Hill struck out three in 3.2 innings of work.
