SAN ANGELO – The No. 4 Angelo State softball team will head to Canyon to face LSC rival No. 15 West Texas A&M for a three-game series starting on Friday, March 16 at 6 p.m.
The Rambelles are 25-2 overall and 9-0 in the LSC. ASU had a 23-game win streak snapped on Monday by splitting a doubleheader with St . Mary's. Angelo State is hitting .362 with a pitching staff ERA of 1.32. The average is No. 2 in the LSC and the ERA is No. 1.
ASU and WT have played each other 54 times since 2006. The Rambelles hold a 28-26 series record but the Lady Buffs have won eight out of the last 10 matchups. The last ASU win in Canyon was on May 11, 2013 in the LSC Tournament Championship game. The Rambelles won 4-1 and are 10-16 overall in Canyon.
The 1.32 ERA is the fourth best in NCAA Division II this season. The Rambelles are also No. 2 in shutouts with 12 on the season. The offense is No. 12 in batting average, No. 13 in home runs per game (1.19), No. 10 in on-base percentage (.447), No. 15 in scoring (7.63 per game) and No. 9 in slugging percentage (.586).
The pitching staff is led by Morgan Hill and Brandy Marlett. The duo is No. 3 and No. 6 in victories in Division II and top 30 in strikeouts. Hill is 12-2 with a save and maintains a 0.78 ERA. She has only allowed 15 total runs of which nine are earned. She has 7 strikeouts and limiting teams to a .171 batting average. The Salado native has three shutouts and combined for five on the season. Marlett is 12-0 with one save and a 1.64 ERA. She has five complete games and struck out 68 batters in 64.0 innings. She is holding opponents to a .193 batting average and has allowed 17 runs this season.
Maykayla Corbin and Meagan Hill have also seen action in the circle this season. Corbin has appeared in seven games and only allowed three hits in 5.0 innings. Meagan Hill is 1-0 in eight appearances. She has struck out 14 batters and has a 3.50 ERA.
The offense has one player above .500, two above .400 and four above .350. ASU has scored 206 runs on the year and recorded 243 total hits.
Bailey Wallace has an impressive .521 average with the seventh most hits in Division II with 37 hits. She has recorded five doubles and three home runs. She has scored a team-high 31 runs while driving in 26 RBIs. The junior has the best on-base percentage at .583 and a .718 slugging percentage.
Madison Greenwell is currently No. 3 in total hits in Division II with 42 on the year. Her .477 average is second on the team and she has also recorded two doubles, one triple and one home run on the year. She is second on the team with 15 stolen bases and 29 runs scored. The senior has a 13 game hitting streak.
Jade Strother is hitting .406 with 13 hits. She has two doubles, one triple and drawn eight walks. THe sophomore has scored 17 times and holds a .537 on-base percentage.
Danae Bina has improved her average to .365 on the year. She has 23 hits, two doubles, one triple and one home run. She has crossed the plate 24 times and drawn eight walks. The Kansas native leads the team with 17 stolen bases.
Taegan Kirk, No. 10 nationally in doubles with 10, is hitting .363 on the year. She has 29 total hits and is second on the team with 33 RBIs. She has scored 20 times and recorded five home runs on the year.
Karina Rocha is No. 2 in total home runs (13), No. 3 in total RBIs (38) and No. 8 in slugging (1.015). The sophomore is hitting .353 on the year with 24 hits and six doubles. She has scored 23 runs and drawn 20 walks on the year.
Courtney Barnhill has a .325 average with 13 hits, four doubles and two home runs. The sophomore has scored 12 times and drove in 12 RBIs.
Brooke Mangold is hitting .315 on the year with 13 hits, two doubles and one triple. She has seven stolen bases and scored 17 times while driving in 14 RBIs.
Mykayla Stroud has 18 hits on the year with two doubles and three home runs. The freshman has recorded 13 RBIs and scored seven times.
Taylor Fogle has driven in 16 RBIs on the year with three doubles and three home runs. She is hitting .271 on the season with 13 total hits.
Heather Reatherford, Mylonee Becerra, Jacqueline Montejano, Amanda Ramage and Megan Gordon have provided depth off the bench. Each one has recorded at least two hits on the season and combined for 16 runs scored.
