SAN ANGELO – The No. 5 Angelo State softball team will continue its road trip with a three-game Lone Star Conference series with Texas Woman's starting on Friday at 6 p.m. and concluding with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Rambelles (27-3, 11-1 LSC) are hitting .355 on the season which Is No. 11 in Division II. ASU is ranked in the top 10 nationally in ERA (1.70), on base percentage (.441), shutouts (12) and slugging percentage (.559). The Pioneers are 18-10 overall and 8-4 in the LSC. It will be the first meeting between the two South Central Regional finalists from a year ago.
The pitching's staff ERA of 1.70 is No. 9 nationally headlined by Morgan Hill and Brandy Marlett. Hill is 13-2 on the year with a 1.12 ERA. She has struck out 84 batters on the year and only given up 21 runs in 93.1 innings pitched. She started the series opener against WT striking out five of the first six batters on her way to a tying a career high with nine strikeouts. The Salado native is limiting teams to a .187 batting average. Marlett is 13-1 with a 2.14 ERA. She has thrown 72.0 innings while striking out 79 and allowing 24 runs. She holds teams to a .201 batting average. Both have one save and five complete games each.
Makayla Corbin and Meagan Hill have provided depth in the circle this season. Corbin has seven appearances on the year and has only given up three hits. Hill is 1-0 on the season in nine appearances. She has given up eight runs in just 14.2 innings pitched.
The offense is led in average by Bailey Wallace. The junior is hitting .488 on the year with the second most hits on the team with 39. She has five doubles to go along with three home runs and has scored a team-high 33 runs. The Rockwall native has also driven in 26 walks and stole nine bases. She also has a .663 slugging and a .563 on base percentage. Â
Jade Strother has taken advantage of her increased playing time in 15 starts. She has a .463 average with 19 hits, two doubles and one triple. She has scored 18 runs while drawing nine walks. She has a .569 on base percentage.
Madison Greenwell leads the team with 45 hits. She is on a current 16 game hit streak. The senior has six doubles, one triple and two home runs on the year. The Flower Mound native has scored the second most runs on the team with 39 and has recorded the second most stolen bases with 15.
Taegan Kirk is second on the team in RBIs with 36 on the year. She has 34 hits, 10 doubles and five home runs on the year. She has scored 20 runs with a .641 slugging percentage.
Karina Rocha, the team leader in home runs (13) and RBIs (38), has a .346 average. She has 27 total hits with six doubles and has crossed the plate 27 times. She also leads the team with 22 walks on the year.
Danae Bina, who had the game-winning RBI against West Texas A&M in the series finale, has a .342 average. She has 25 total hits with two doubles, two triples and one home run. She leads the team with 18 stolen bases while scoring 25 runs. The Kansas native has driven in 10 RBIs this season as well.
Brooke Mangold has 19 hits to go along with a .311 average. She has stolen nine bases and driven in 14 RBIs. The senior has also scored 18 runs to go along with two doubles and two triples.
Mykayla Stroud has 20 hits as a freshman and two doubles. She has recorded 14 RBIs and is one of nine players with double-digit RBI totals.
Courtney Barnhill has 14 hits, four doubles and two home runs. The sophomore has scored 12 runs and driven in 12 as well.
Taylor Fogle has recorded 13 hits, three doubles and three home runs in her first season at Angelo State. She has 16 RBIs and scored nine times.
Other Rambelles providing depth include Heather Reatherford, Mylonee Becerra, Jacqueline Montejano, Amanda Ramage and Meagan Gordon.
