SAN ANGELO – The No. 5 Angelo State softball team will host Tarleton State for a three-game Lone Star Conference series starting on Thursday, March 29 at 7 p.m. at Mayer Field.
The Rambelles enter the series 29-4 overall and 13-2 in the LSC while the TexAnns are 30-6 and 12-6 in the LSC. Tarleton State is the only team last season to take a conference series from ASU. The two teams have the No. 1 and No. 2 ERAs and No. 2 and No. 3 batting averages in the conference.
The pitching staff has been one of the top groups in the LSC led by seniors Morgan Hill and Brandy Marlett. Hill is 1.27 ERA with a 14-3 record and one save. She has thrown 104.1 innings with 94 strikeouts. The Salado native has only allowed 25 runs of which 19 have been earned. She has thrown a combined eight shutouts with five complete games. Marlett is 14-1 with a 2.37 ERA. The senior has struck out 85 and holds teams to a .206 batting average. Meagan Hill and Maykayla Corbin have also seen innings for ASU. Hill is 1-0 with a 3.82 ERA. She has thrown 14.2 innings and pitched in nine games. Corbin has one save on the year in eight appearances. The staff is No. 4 in total shutouts with 12.
The offense has been led in average by Bailey Wallace. The junior has hit .483 this season with 43 hits, five doubles and three home runs. She is third on the team with 27 RBI and second with 38 runs scored. The Rockwall native has also stolen 10 bases and has been hit by a pitch 12 times this season. She has 14 multiple hit games and seven multiple RBI games. Wallace also leads the team with a .560 on base percentage.
Madison Greenwell, currently maintaining a 19-game hit streak, has the team's most hits with 49 on the year. She is hitting .434 with six doubles, one triple and two home runs. The Flower Mound native is second on the team with 34 runs scored and has driven in 16 on the year. She is also second on the team with 15 stolen bases.
Jade Strother has a .440 average with 50 plate appearances. She has 22 total hits, two doubles, one triple and one home run. The home run was her first career grand slam against TWU. She has scored 19 times and drawn 10 walks on the year.
Taegan Kirk is the team leader in RBIs and doubles with 41 and 11 this season. The Lubbock native has a .375 average with 39 total hits while adding six home runs. She had her first grand slam of the season against TWU.
Danae Bina is hitting .325 on the season while leading the team with 18 stolen bases. The senior has 26 hits, two doubles, two triple and one home run. She has scored 26 times and drawn 11 walks.
Karina Rocha, the team leader in home runs (13), walks (25) and slugging (.851), has a .322 season average. She has 28 total hits with seven doubles.
Mykayla Stroud has 20 hits on thee year with two doubles and three home runs. She had driven in 14 RBI and scored eight times.
Brooke Mangold has 20 hits with two doubles and two triples on the season. She has 10 stolen bases and scored 19 runs while driving in 14.
Amanda Ramage hit her first career grand slam against TWU. She has four hits and two home runs on the year. The San Angelo native has driven in eight RBIs and scored eight with six walks.
Taylor Fogle has recorded 15 hits with four doubles and three home runs. She has driven in 16 RBI and scored 10 times. The California native also has 10 walks on the year.
Others providing depth on the bench include Heather Reatherford, Mylonee Becerra, Jacqueline Montejano and Meagan Gordon.
