SAN ANGELO – Fresh off a three-game road sweep of Texas A&M-Commerce, the Angelo State softball team will travel to Austin for a midweek doubleheader against St. Edward's starting at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Rambelles (41-6, 23-4 LSC) lead the Lone Star Conference in pitching with a 2.03 team earned run average while hitting .339 and averaging 7.3 runs per game.
Brandy Marlett and Morgan Hill lead the pitching staff with the first and second best individual ERAs in the LSC, respectively.
Marlett has appeared in 29 games this season with a league-leading 1.72 earned run average. She also leads the LSC in opponent batting average at .193. Over the weekend the senior became the Angelo State all-time leader in wins and also surpassed the career milestone of 800 strikeouts.
Hill is second in the conference with an ERA just above Marlett's at 1.77 and leads the team in innings pitched. She has struck out 120 batters this season and won 19 games.
Meagan Hill and Makayla Corbin have also contributed to the pitching staff this season with Meagan posting a 3.94 ERA in 12 appearances and Corbin striking out seven batters in 13.1 innings in the circle.
Leading the Rambelle offense with a .407 batting average and an on-base percentage just under .500 is second basemen Bailey Wallace. Wallace has started all 47 games this season and has seven doubles and four home runs.
Outfielder Madison Greenwell follows close behind Wallace with a .398 average and a team-leading 66 hits. She has eight doubles, three home runs and is tied for the team lead with 24 steals while being caught just once.
Five other ASU starters are hitting above the .300 mark for the season.
Taegan Kirk currently boasts an average of .386 while serving as the starting catcher. Kirk has a team-leading 13 doubles as well as 11 home runs.
Jade Strother is batting .351 with the highest on-base percentage on the team at .495. She has a pair of doubles and one home run.
Danae Bina has started every game at shortstop this season and has a .345 average. She leads the team with three triples and is also tied for the team lead with 24 stolen bases.
Karina Rocha has provided the most power in the Rambelle lineup this season, blasting a team-high 15 home runs and adding in 11 doubles while batting .330.
Taylor Fogle had a strong last week with five home runs and has a hit in 10 of her last 11 games. She has eight home runs on the season and seven doubles while hitting .326.
Courtney Barnhill is hitting .301 for the year in 34 starts with six doubles. She is the third and final Rambelle with double-digit home runs at 10 this season.
Mykayla Stroud and Brooke Mangold have also contributed to the Angelo State offense. Stroud is hitting .253 with three home runs and 15 RBI. Mangold scored four runs over the weekend against Texas A&M-Commerce and is hitting .245 on the year.
Providing depth off the bench this season has been Jaqueline Montejano, Heather Reatherford, Amanda Ramage, Mylonee Becerra and Megan Gordon.
St. Edward's comes into the doubleheader with a 7-40 record on the year, but has won two straight against Newman. The Rambelles and Hilltoppers faced off for two games earlier this season with ASU taking both games by scores of 8-0.
