No. 6 Rambelles Complete Regular Season Against Aggies

SAN ANGELO – The No. 6 Angelo State softball team will play its final series of the regular season on Friday and Saturday at Mayer Field against Cameron, honoring the team's seniors before Saturday's doubleheader.

The Rambelles (43-6, 23-4 LSC) have a chance to clinch its second straight Lone Star Conference Championship in front of the home crowd this weekend. With one win, the Rambelles will win the championship and the right to host the LSC postseason tournament for the eighth time in program history.

ASU will also graduate six players from this year's team, including Madison Greenwell, Brooke Mangold, Brandy Marlett, Morgan Hill, Denae Bina and Amanda Ramage. Greenwell, Marlett and Mangold each spent all four of their years at Angelo State.

Greenwell is just three hits away from taking over as the all-time leader at ASU and is already the career triples leader with 15. She has hit .355 over four years with a  career on-base percentage of .400 while hitting 34 doubles, scoring 159 times and driving in 108 runs.

Mangold has played four years using her speed to become one of ASU's top outfielders. She has a career .247 batting average with 88 runs scored, 54 RBI and 52 stolen bases in that time.

Marlett will leave Angelo State holding a number of the program's pitching records in the career, season and single-game categories. She is the Rambelles' all-time strikeout leader with 811, wins leader with 87, innings pitched leader with 732 and a number of other records including lowest opponent batting average and strikeouts per seven innings. She has thrown five career no-hitters and was an All-American in 2017.

Morgan Hill spent the majority of her three seasons in the circle, posting a 35-11 record in that time with a 2.48 ERA. She also saw time hitting as the Salado native had 17 hits with four doubles, one triple and two home runs in her first season at ASU.  In 2017 she matched the single-season save record with six and in 2018 she threw her first no-hitter in a win over UT Permian Basin.

The other two Rambelle seniors played two seasons at ASU with tremendous amounts of success.

Danae Bina has started every single game the Rambelles have played at shortstop in the last two seasons while hitting .335. She has scored 77 runs and driven in 53 while stealing 57 bases.

Amanda Ramage has also played an important role for Angelo State the last two seasons, playing in 68 games and hitting .278. She has scored 24 times and driven in 28 runs with an on-base percentage of .429.

Each of these six seniors have been apart of a program that has gone 103-13 overall the last two seasons including a 55-4 record at home and a trip to the Division II Softball Championship that ended with ASU as the national runner-up.

Leading the offense this season is catcher Taegan Kirk with a .399 average. Kirk has started all 49 games behind the plate and leads the team with 16 doubles and RBI with 57 while hitting a team-third 11 home runs.

Just two points behind Kirk is Bailey Wallace with a batting average of .397 and a team-leading .488 on-base percentage. Wallace has eight doubles this season and leads the conference with 18 hit-by-pitches.

Jade Strother is having a strong year in her sophomore season, batting .342 in 46 games. She has 11 RBI and is just behind Wallace with a  .485 on-base percentage.

Karina Rocha has supplied much of the Rambelle power this season, leading the team with a 15 home runs while hitting .319. She has also doubled 11 times and gotten on base at a .484 clip.

Courtney Barnhill blasted three more home runs earlier this week in the ASU doubleheader at St. Edward's to push her total to 13. She also has six doubles and a  .312 batting average.

Taylor Fogle has caught fire at the plate recently and his now hitting .310 on the year. She has eight home runs and seven doubles.

Mykayla Stroud is batting .250 for the year with 15 runs scored and 15 RBI.

Other Rambelles contributing this season include Jacqueline Montejano, Heather Reatherford, Mylonee Becerra and Megan Gordon at the plate as well as Meagan Hill and Makayla Corbin in the circle.
