Rambelles Set for South Central Super Regional

SAN ANGELO – The No. 6 Angelo State softball team will face No. 13 Texas A&M-Commerce in the Division II South Central Super Regional in a best of three series at Mayer Field starting on Thursday, May 17 at 7 p.m. with a trip to the Division II Softball College World Series on the line.

The Rambelles (50-7) beat Colorado Christian, West Texas A&M and Cameron to reach its second straight super regional. Texas A&M-Commerce is 42-10 on the season and defeated Tarleton State twice and Colorado Mesa to advance to its first super regional in program history. The Rambelles are hitting .334 as a team and maintain a 1.89 ERA. The two teams have seen each other three times previously this season with ASU battling to win all three games in Commerce. 

ASU will be seeking its sixth trip to the NCAA Division II Softball Championship tournament after appearances in 2004, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2017.  This will be the second time in program history the Rambelles have an opportunity to make consecutive Division II College Softball World Series since 2009-10.

Brandy Marlett and Morgan Hill have been stellar in the circle this season. Marlett, a NFCA and D2CCA All-Region selection, is 24-3 overall with two saves and a 1.66 earned run average. She has 185 strikeouts in 168.1 innings pitched. The Henderson, Nevada, native holds teams to a .201 batting average and has only given up 47 runs. Hill, a D2CCA All-Region pick, has matched Marlett in wins at 24-4 with two saves as well. The senior has a 1.67 ERA in 163.2 innings pitched. The Salado native has struck out 141 batters and the duo has thrown 22 complete games. She holds opponents to a .211 batting average and also only allowed 47 runs. Meagan Hill and Maykayla Corbin have provided depth. Megan Hill is 2-0 in 13 appearances while Corbin has two saves in 14.1 innings pitched.  

Taegan Kirk has led the Rambelles offense with her .429 average. She also leads the team in doubles (19), RBIs (63) and slugging (.777). She has 14 home runs and scored 42 runs on the year. She has thrown out 14 batters while only allowing 14 steals. The Lubbock native has stolen four bases and has a .479 on base percentage.

Bailey Wallace has a .378 average with 62 hits, nine doubles and four home runs. She leads the team with 54 runs and driven in 38. The junior has stolen 13 bases and drawn 11 walks. The Rockwall native leads the team by being hit 20 times by a pitch.

Madison Greenwell leads the team with 77 hits on the year. She has also added nine doubles, three triples and three homes runs. She has scored the second most runs on the team with 40 while driving in 38. The Flower Mound native is second on the team with 26 stolen bases.

Jade Strother has a .333 average in 78 at-bats this season. She has scored 29 runs to go along with 26 hits. She has also excelled with plate discipline with 20 walks.

Danae Bina is hitting .331 on the year. The senior has 46 hits, six doubles, four triples and two home runs. She has scored 40 runs and drawn 17 walks on the year. The Kansas native leads the team with 28 stolen bases.

Karina Rocha leads the team in home runs with 17 on the season. She has a .321 average with 45 total hits. She has also added 11 doubles while recording the second most RBIs with 53. The sophomore has scored 35 runs and leads ASU with 35 walks.

Taylor Fogle has 39 hits and a .320 average. The junior has added eight doubles and nine home runs. She has driven in 37 RBIs and scored 22 runs. The California native also has 20 walks and a .607 slugging clip.

Courtney Barnhill has 40 hits, including six doubles, one triple and 13 home runs on the season. She has a .313 average with 30 walks. The sophomore has tallied 38 RBIs and scored 37 runs.

Brooke Mangold has 30 hits on the year along with two doubles, two triples and a home run. The senior has stolen 23 stolen bases and scored 33 times.

Mykayla Stroud has 25 hits with three doubles and three home runs. She has drawn 14 walks and stolen nine bases this season.

Other Rambelles that have provided depth this season include Jacqueline Montejano, Heather Reatherford, Amanda Ramage, Mylonee Becerra and Megan Gordon.

The games will be carried locally on KOOL 100.1 with Jeremy Bryant on the call.
