SAN ANGELO – The No. 6 Angelo State softball team will host the LSC Tournament Championship for the second-straight year and face the winner of Tarleton State and Cameron at 6:30 p.m. at Mayer Field on Friday, May 4.
The Rambelles enter the tournament at 45-7 overall and 23-3 at Mayer Field. ASU has won six LSC Tournament titles with its last coming in 2014. Angelo State has a .338 season average, currently No. 19 in Division II, and a 1.87 ERA which is No. 14 nationally.
ASU is 1-2 against Tarleton State this season and 3-0 against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The pitching staff has been stellar this season with seniors Brandy Marlett and Morgan Hill leading the way. Marlett is 22-3 with a 1.51 ERA with five shutouts. The Nevada native leads the team with 161 strikeouts and has added two saves in 148.1 innings pitched. She has only allowed 39 runs on the season. Morgan Hill is 21-4 with a 1.72 ERA. She has four shutouts with 129 strikeouts in 146.2 innings. Megan Hill and Makayla Corbin have provided depth. Meagan Hill is 2-0 with 21 strikeouts while Corbin has two saves in 14.1 innings pitched.
Taegan Kirk leads the offense in average (.420), doubles (18) and RBIs (59). Defensively, the junior has thrown out 52-percent of baserunners this season. She has 68 total hits with 13 home runs and scoring 37 runs. She also has 13 walks and four stolen bases.
Bailey Wallace is second on the team with a .383 average. She has 57 hits, eight doubles and four home runs. She has the team lead with 50 runs scored and driven in 37 RBIs. She has been hit by a pitch 20 times and stolen 13 bases. The Rockwall native also has a .478 on base percentage.
Madison Greenwell, ASU's career leader in hits, has the most on the team with 70. She has added nine doubles, two triples and three home runs. She has scored the second most runs with 47 and dirven in 34 RBIs. She is second on the team with 25 stolen bases on the year.
Danae Bina has a .344 average with 43 hits on the year. She leads the team with 26 stolen bases. The Kansas native also has six doubles, three triples and two home runs. She has drawn 16 walks and been hit 15 times.
Karina Rocha is tops on the team in walks (35), on base percentage (.494) and home runs (15). She has 42 hits on the year with 11 of them doubles. She has driven in the second most RBIs with 44 and crossed the plate 33 times.
Courtney Barnhill has only played in 39 games this season but has 38 total hits. She is tied for second on the team with 13 home runs and has added six doubles. The Lubbock native has scored 33 times and driven in 38 RBIs.
Taylor Fogle has come on strong with 37 hits and 17 being for extra bases. She has totaled eight doubles and nine home runs on the year. She has tallied 33 RBIs and scored 21 runs to go along with 16 walks.
Brooke Mangold has 27 hits on the year with two doubles, two triples and one home run. She has crossed the plate 31 times and stolen 31 bases on the year.
Other Rambelles that have provided depth this season include Jacqueline Montejano, Jade Strother, Heather Reatherford, Amanda Ramage, Mylonee Becerra, Mykayla Stroud and Megan Gordon.
