SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State volleyball team will head on the road this weekend to take on Lone Star Conference opponents Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M.
The Belles are 9-4 (2-1 LSC) this season after a midweek loss at #20 Tarleton State.
"I'm playing five freshmen, and all of them are doing great things for us, " Angelo State head volleyball coach Chuck Waddington said. "There's a lot of good volleyball happening and we're doing good things against good teams."
The Belles have been excellent defensively all season, leading the conference in opponent hitting percentage and ranking third in blocks per set. Baleigh Allen and Sophia Berg have led the Belles at the net all season, combining for nearly 80 total blocks. Sundara Chinn has also been excellent, with 33 blocks to her credit.
Makenna Hanssen, Sundara Chinn, and setter Meghan Parker have paced the Belles in digs, with all three recording over 100 this season. Morgan Preston is close behind with 98, and Chloe Robinson rounds out the top five with 77.
Offensively, the Belles are led by Audrey Fragniere and Sundara Chinn, who have both posted over 100 kills this season. After a stellar outing against Tarleton State, Anna Graham ranks third on the team with 80. Baleigh Allen is not far behind with 79, and Sophia Berg rounds out the top five with 64.
Setter Meghan Parker has paced the Belles in assists with 445, which leads the Lone Star Conference. She also leads the team with 22 service aces.
Bailey Drum, Makenzie Griffin, Brianna Hudson, and Grace White have also made important contributions this season. Drum is coming off one of her best performances of the season and has posted 29 kills and has pushed her average above one per set. Griffin has excelled in limited playing time, averaging just under two kills per set. Hudson has posted 22 kills on the year, and White has 15.
Eastern New Mexico comes into Friday's matchup with a 4-6 (2-1 LSC) record. They dropped a four set match to UT Permian Basin on Tuesday. Angelo State is 46-20 all time against the Greyhounds.
West Texas A&M comes into Saturday's matchup with a 7-3 (2-0 LSC) record and having won consecutive matches. Angelo State is 20-59 all time against the Lady Buffs.
