SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State volleyball team stormed back from a two set deficit and defeated #17 Texas A&M-Commerce 3-2 (25-27, 22-25, 25-16, 25-19, 15-12) for their first Lone Star Conference win of the season Friday evening.
ASU's defense throughout the match was excellent, limiting TAMUC to a .108 hitting percentage for the match. In the second, third, and fourth sets, TAMUC was limited to a hitting percentage of .100 or under.
ASU started off the match very slowly and struggled to create good chances throughout the first two sets. However, the third set was the turning point of the match.
The Belles went on a huge run midway through the third set, turning a 15-14 lead into a 24-14 lead thanks to great serving by Morgan Preston and a couple huge blocks by Baleigh Allen, who had five during the contest.
Setter Meghan Parker and Audrey Fragniere led the Belles on the night. Parker had a double double with 51 assists and 11 digs, and Fragniere led the team with 21 kills and a .326 hitting percentage.
Freshman Brianna Hudson also provided a spark. Seeing significant playing time for the first time this season, Hudson excelled, finishing with 13 kills and a .333 hitting percentage.
The Belles will be back on the court tomorrow afternoon when they face Texas Woman's University at 2 p.m. CST.
