RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – The Angelo State University Belle Basketball team fought tooth and nail against the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech to win, 92-90.
In Case You Missed It:
First Quarter
- Megan Guadian started the first quarter off well for the Belles as she made the first three pointer of the game for Angelo State, 3-0.
- Another three pointer from Guadian and a driving layup form Catara Samuel pushed Angelo States lead to 10-8 over the Suns.
- Lana Marovs second chance layup extended the Belles lead to 14-10.
- Angel Haydens jumper underneath the basket pushed the Belles lead to 20-15.
- A turnover from Arkansas Tech gave Marov a chance to shoot a three pointer to bring the Blue and Gold to a 25-17 lead.
- A pull-up jumper from Asia Davis ended the first quarter for the Belles, 27-18.
Second Quarter
- Several jump shots from Sawyer Lloyd and Marov extended ASU's lead to 37-20.
- Arkansas Tech made a comeback however, scoring 13 unanswered points to cut Angelo States lead to four at 37-33.
- Davis's two made free throws extend the Belles lead to 39-33. Her free throws were the first points ASU scored in almost five minutes.
- A layup from Perrine Manoury, assisted by Marov, ended the second quarter for the Belles, 44-37.
Third Quarter
- Jump shots from Guadian and Davis, and a layup from De'Anira Moore, brought Angelo States lead to 50-42.
- ATU made another comeback though, cutting the Belles lead to just one point, 51-50.
- Jump shots from Marov and Moore pulled ASU's lead back to 58-50.
- A layup from Samuel further extended the lead over the Golden Suns to 64-56.
- A layup from Moore ended the third quarter for the Belles, 66-60.
Fourth Quarter
- A three pointer from Arkansas Tech would tie the game at 69-69 early in the fourth quarter.
- Samuel went on an unanswered six point run to put Angelo State back in the lead once again, 75-69.
- A jump shot and a layup from Davis pushed the Blue and Golds lead even further to 83-74.
- Multiple free throws and jump shots brought Arkansas Tech within one of the Belles lead at 89-88.
- A jump shot from Samuel brought ASU to a three point lead over Arkansas Tech, 91-88.
- Two made free throws form ATU brought the game once again to a one point lead for the Belles, 91-90.
- A free throw from Moore, and a steal from Guadian, ended the game in favor of the Belles however, 92-90.
Key Players:
- De'Anira Moore and Asia Davis led the Belles offense into the game, Moore scoring 18 points for ASU, and Davis scoring 17. Moore shot 7-12 field goals and 4-6 free throws, while Davis shot 5-10 field goal and 6-7 free throws.
- The Belles shot 47.2 percent from the field, while holding Arkansas Tech to a shooting percentage of 43.
- Moore registered 12 rebounds, while Catara Samuel and Lana registered six rebounds each for the Belles. Davis, Sawyer Lloyd, and Angel Hayden each registered three rebounds.
