WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Angelo State Belle basketball team fell against the Midwestern State Mustangs in an exciting game on Thursday night, 76-64.
The Belles fall to 5-3 overall on the season and 2-2 in conference.
In Case You Missed It:
First Quarter
- A three pointer from Lana Marov gave the Belles an early lead in the first quarter, 3-0.
- Midwestern State jumped to an early 13-5 lead over the Blue and Gold, but two made free throws from De'Anira Moore cut the Mustangs lead to six points, 13-7.
- With less than two minutes left in the first quarter, two free throws made from Marov brought the Mustangs lead to 12 points, 21-9.
- A fast break made three pointer from Asia Davis cut the Mustangs lead to nine, 21-12.
Second Quarter
- A made jump shot from Moore cut Midwesterns lead to 10, 26-16.
- MSU slowly pulled further ahead, leading by 17 at one point in the second quarter, but two made three pointers from Megan Guadian and Kinley Brown, plus a made free throw from Samantha Rocha cut the Mustangs lead to just 12, 40-28.
- A made jump shot from Catara Samuel brought Angelo State to a 10 point deficit against the Mustangs, with a little over a minute and a half left in the first half, 44-34.
- Two made free throws from Marov with six seconds left in the second quarter brought the Belles within eight points, 44-36 to end the first half,
Third Quarter
- A made layup from Samuel brought ASU within six points of taking the lead from the Mustangs, 44-38.
- Midwestern State and Angelo State continued to trade points back and forth, tying at nine points several times, 52-43.
- A made free throw from Moore cut the Mustangs lead over the Belles to just 10 points, 56-46.
- A made layup from Moore ended the third quarter for the Belles, Angelo State trailing the Mustangs by 13, 64-51.
Fourth Quarter
- A made jumper from Moore and two made free throws from Brown cut the Mustangs lead to 11 points, 66-55.
- Angelo State went on a seven point streak with Marov making a three point shot, cutting the Mustangs lead down to 10, 72-62.
- The Belles attempted a valiant comeback late in the fourth quarter, but the Mustangs proved too much for the Belles, as the Mustangs defeated ASU, 76-64.
Key Players:
- Moore once again scored the most points for the Belles, scoring 15 points for ASU. Moore shot 6-9 from the field, and 3-5 from the free throw line. Moore registered 11 rebounds, three on offense and eight on defense, as well as one assist and two blocks.
- Catara Samuel scored 11 points for the Belles, shooting 5-20 from the field, and 1-7 from the three point line. Samuel registered eight rebounds, five on offense and three on defense, as well as one steal.
- Lana Marov scored 13 points for Angelo State, shooting 3-10 from the field, 3-8 from the three point line, and 4-6 from the free throw line. Marov registered six rebounds, three on offense and three on defense, as well as one block.
