Rams defeat UTPB 93-80 on Senior Day

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team defeated UT Permian Basin 93-80 on Senior Day to move to 18-7 (11-5 Lone Star Conference) on the season. With the win, the Rams solidified their hold on third place in the conference standings.

Collin Turner led the Rams with 19 points on 6-10 shooting from the field, including 3-4 from behind the three point line and 4-4 from the free throw line. He also had three rebounds and three assists. He was one of five players in double figures in points. Senior Kiair Crouch finished with 18 points on 6-12 shooting from the field, making all six shots from three point range. Antonio Singleton and Daron Mims both finished with 14 points. Singleton recorded five rebounds and two steals on the afternoon as well. Josh Boutte rounded out the players in double figures with 11 points and seven rebounds. Senior Valentine Sangoyomi led the Rams on the backboards with ten rebounds, five of which are offensive.

ASU got out to a fast start in the game, leading 13-4 under four minutes into the contest on an and one bucket by Daron Mims. The Rams took their first double digit lead with just under nine minutes in the first half on a Kiair Crouch three pointer, his third of the game. The Rams kept the Falcons at a distance for the rest of the half, ending with an Antonio Singleton three pointer right before the buzzer after a UTPB turnover.

In the second half, the Rams extended their lead to 16 points on two free throws by Paul Williams two minutes into the period. After a run closed the Falcon gap to six, the Rams steadily pulled away as Collin Turner hit several baskets, including a pullup jumper from just inside the arc, a hesitation move that he converted for a layup, and two three pointers. From then on, the Ram lead did not drop below 13 points as they cruised to the finish line.

For the game, the Rams shot 45 percent from the field and 40 percent from the three point line. They also outrebounded the Falcons 39-30.

The Rams will be in action again this coming weekend as they hit the road to take on Midwestern State and Cameron.
