SAN ANGELO, TX – Angelo State Softball started the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge in the best way possible, winning their two games in the first day of play. The Belles outscored their opponents 14-2 and moved to 6-1 for the young season.
Game 1 – Adams State – Official Box Score
The Belles brought #BOOMSHAKALAKA back with full force as everyone run they scored on the Grizzlies was brought in by the way of a home run. Taylor Fogle would lead off the action by hitting a two-run home run in the first inning that scored Courtney Barnhill as well. Taegan Kirk would then hit a two-run bomb of her own in the second that once again brought Barnhill in to score. Mykayla Stroud would then one-up the Belles run production by driving a three-run home run to right field in the third inning, which would be complimented by a Courtney Barnhill solo shot to cap off the Belles' scoring. Barnhill would end the game 2-2 at the plate with an RBI, three runs, a walk, and two stolen bases.
Meagan Hill would pick up her fourth win of the season in dominant fashion. The sophomore stayed in the circle for the Belles all five innings, only giving up one hit and striking out six of the 17 batters she faced.
Game 2 – Texas A&M International – Official Box Score
Angelo State would then turn around to face the Dustdevils right after their win over the Grizzlies. The Belles would trail all the way up until the game entered the bottom half of the fifth inning, which they entered down 2-1. ASU would then explode for three runs to take a 4-2 lead that would be padded by two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. The game would end at 6-2 as a Belles Victory.
Seven hitters in the ASU lineup recorded a hit in the final game of the day. Courtney Barnhill, Karina Rocha, Taegan Kirk, Avery Zeigler, Mykayla Stroud, Jade Strother, and Hatty Shope make up this list. Stroud ended the game going 1-1 with two RBIs, two walks, and was hit by a pitch once.
The George and Ola McCorkle Challenge continues tomorrow with the Belles slated to play TAMIU at 1:45 and Adams State at 4:00.
