San Angelo, TX – The Angelo State Rambelles (17-9) will look to defend their home field against the St. Mary's Rattlers (15-11) on Wednesday, March 13 in a double header starting at 4 p.m. Both team will be riding the same wave momentum wise, having dropped their last series 2-1. Angelo State having lost their series against Tarleton State, and St. Mary's being defeated by the Lubbock Christian Chaparrals.
The Rambelles have leaned on their ability to do damage at the plate for success this year, as their .324 team average is second in the Lone Star Conference, trailing WTAMU by just 20 points. Courtney Barnhill, Taegan Kirk, and Taylor Fogle all rank in the top 10 of the LSC in batting average with clips of .436, .418, and .397 respectively. Barnhill is also currently tied for first in the hits category with 24, and leads the conference in doubles with 10.
The Rattlers also claim and offensive trio of their own in the form of Raynelle Nash, Staci Johns, and Taylor Germain. Johns also leads the Rattlers in the circle, holding a 2.04 ERA in 89 innings of work while striking out 64 and only walking 18. She claimed her sixth win of the season against the Rambelles when they met up earlier in the season as St. Mary's took game one of the doubleheader split. Since then, the junior from Elgin has moved on to 7-4 from her then 6-2 record.
St. Mary's has struggled at the plate recently, with a team batting average of .278 and 126 strikeouts to their 74 walks drawn. Their offense currently ranks fifth in the Heartland Conference, but their past performance against the Rambelles proved that their competitiveness cannot be entirely measured through their statistics.
After the doubleheader, the Rambelles will then face Midwestern State in a three game series over the weekend. MSU is currently ranked eighth in the LSC offensively fifth based on their pitching staff ERA of 3.59.
