ABILENE – The Angelo State men's and women's track and field teams recorded several impressive performances, most notably from hammer thrower Decio Andrade, who broke the school and Lone Star Conference record in the event with a mark of 69.01 meters (226-5).
Other strong performances included Trivett Jones' win in the pole vault with a jump of 5.10 meters (16-8.75), Matt Jones's double victories in the long jump (6.59 meters (21-7.5)) and triple jump (14.93 meters (48-11.75), Shania Ford's second place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18, Faith Roberson's second place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.89,the women's 4x100 meter relay team composed of Kaitlyn Mathews, Hannah Porter, Sarah Porter, and Tare Ward's second place finish with a time of 47.01 seconds, the women's 4x400 meter relay team of Roberson, Kaitlyn Mathews, Taylor Hall, and Kayla Gilbert's second place finish with a time of 3:49.49, Ayodeji Adedokun's second place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.28 seconds, and Michael Rodriguez's second place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 14.86 meters (48-9).Â
On the women's side, Hannah Porter finished fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.95 seconds. In the 400 meters, Octayvia Williams finished sixth with a time of 1:00.18. In the 800 meters, Kayla Gilbert finished fifth with a time of 2:20.19. In the 1500 meters, Jazmin Hernandez finished seventh with a time of 4:56.37. In the 400 meter hurdles, Natalie Schulz finished seventh with a time of 1:08.61. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Bridgett Cadenhead finished sixth with a time of 12:34.72. In the high jump, Tillie Villareal finished fourth with a jump of 1.53 meters (5-0) and in the pole vault, Heather Shaffer finished tied for fourth with a jump of 3.50 meters (11-5.75). In the triple jump, Kaitlyn Mathews finished fourth with a jump of 12.26 meters (40-2.75). Sara Ramos finished seventh in the hammer throw with a toss of 48.64 meters (159-7).
On the men's side , Ja'Micah Polk finished eighth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.90 seconds. Nathan Blackwell finished sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.72 seconds. In the 400 meters, Demontravous Jones finished third, Nick Ellisor finished fourth, and Emmett Seals finished seventh. Jones finished in 47.78 seconds, Ellisor finished with a time of 48.91 seconds, and Seals finished in 50.14 seconds. In the 800 meters, Jakob Porter finished fifth with a time of 1:57.91. In the 110 hurdles, Ezekiel Vaughan finished eighth with a time of 15.21 seconds. In the 400 meter hurdles, Vaughan finished third with a time of 54.48 seconds, Austin White finished sixth with a time of 56.19 seconds, and Isaiah Martin finished seventh with a time of 56.20 seconds. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Matt Jones finished fifth with a time of 10:16.32. All three 4x400 meter relay teams placed in the top seven, running 3;14.62, 3:23.55, and 3:23.80, respectively. In the high jump, Maxime Lapeyrie and Michael Rodriguez both jumped 1.98 meters (6-5.9) and Cameron Cross finished seventh in the shot put with a toss of 15.42 meters (50-7).
The teams will be in action again next weekend as they will head to Kingsville to compete in the Cactus Cup.
