LAWTON, OKLAHOMA – The Angelo State men's basketball team notched their 20th win of the season against Cameron Saturday afternoon, using a big run spanning both halves to pull away from the Aggies. They went on to win 78-58. With the win, the Rams (20-7, 13-5 clinched the third seed for the Lone Star Conference tournament this coming weekend.
The Rams were led by Ronald Bell, who posted 19 points and 16 rebounds on 7-13 shooting from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line. He was joined in double figures in scoring by Paul Williams, Daron Mims, and Collin Turner. Williams made 3-6 from the three point line and added four free throws for his 13 points. Mims shot 6-9 from the field, including a three pointer, on the afternoon. Turner went 2-5 from the three point line on his way to double figures.
James Kirksey and Josh Boutte were also significant contributors during the game. Kirksey had eight points on 2-4 from the field and made four free throws. Boutte made 3-6 shots from the field and had seven points and nine rebounds.
After a slow start, the Rams went on a 26-5 run spanning the two halves of play to essentially clinch the game. In the first half, the Aggies were held to no points over the last eight minutes of play as the Rams got out to a 14 point lead.
The Rams will be in action again on Thursday, March 7th as they will take on Texas A&M-Kingsville in the first round of the Lone Star Conference tournament at 12 p.m.
