LAWTON, OKLAHOMA - The Angelo State women's basketball used a career high point total by senior Marquita Daniels and a season high 113 point to defeat Cameron 113-81 Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Belles move to 22-4 (17-3 Lone Star Conference) and are LSC Co-Champions (with West Texas A&M). They have also secured the number two seed for the Lone Star Conference tournament, which begins next week in Frisco, Texas.
Daniels led the Belles with 40 points on 14-24 shooting, including 7-10 from the three point line and 5-6 from the free throw line. She added six rebounds, five assists, and three steals on the afternoon. The 40 points not only marked a career high for Daniels, but she also moves into a tie for second place on the all time individual scoring list for a single game.
She was joined in double figures by Maria Delgado, De'Anira Moore, and Asia Davis. Delgado posted a career high 24 point performance, shooting 7-11 from the field, 6-10 from the three point line, and 4-4 from the free throw line. Moore shot 4-6 from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line for her 12 points. She added three rebounds and a block. Davis shot 4-8 from the field and made her only three point attempt on her way to an 11 point afternoon. She added three rebounds and four assists.
Dezirae Hampton also made a significant contribution in a number of ways with nine points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Essence Johnson had six points and five rebounds on 3-4 shooting from the field and Catara Samuel had six points and two assists.
For the game, the Belles shot 56 percent from the field and 50 percent from the three point line while holding the Aggies to 36 percent and 28 percent, respectively.
The Belles will be in action again at the Lone Star Conference tournament in Frisco, Texas when they will face Texas Woman's University. The game is on Friday, March 8th at 2:30.
