Buffs' Bats Too Much for Rams in Game 1

CANYON, TX – The Rams headed to Canyon to face off in a showdown between the highest ranked teams in the Lone Star Conference on Friday. The #11 Angelo State Rams and the #15 Buffs have battled it out in the conference statistics leaderboard all season and it was finally time for the two teams to face each other on the field.

The first game of the series ended as a 12-1 victory for the Buffs who move on to 2-3 in conference play and match the Rams' 23-6 overall record. With the loss ASU moves to 4-1 within the Lone Star Conference. It was no surprise that the Buffs called Joe Corbett's name to start on the bump for the series opener. Corbett, who had a 6-0 record and sub two ERA going into the game, held the Rams to just one run in the entirety of his seven inning complete game outing.

The Rams had a steep hill to climb after giving up six runs in the bottom of the first inning. There were signs of life in the top of the third when Nicholas Novak singled to left field on a 0-2 pitch to bring in Jackson Hardy, but that was all the damage the team would manage to inflict. Angelo State scattered five hits between five batters in the game. Nick Novak, Jackson Hardy, Lachlan Mayo, Nick Seginowich, and Josh Elvir all reached base by the way of a hit.

If weather permits, the second and third games of the series will be played on Saturday starting at 4 p.m. Fans can follow the game through the live links on angelosports.com or listen on 1260 KKSA.
