Rambelles Split Tarleton Doubleheader

Stephenville, TX – After dropping the first game of the series 6-2, the Rambelles fought for redemption and came up with a hard fought 9-8 win in the first game of the doubleheader. After putting up two runs in the first inning, ASU's bats exploded for five more in the second, giving them the momentum to come away with a huge redemptive win.

Angelo State took advantage of loose Tarleton play in the first inning to plate their first two runs of the day. The Texans walked Taegan Kirk, hit Taylor Fogle, and made an error on a ball hit by Karina Rocha all in succession to load the bases for Hatty Shope. A disciplined plate approach from Shope allowed her to draw a walk and collect an RBI in the at bat, bringing in Kirk from third. Avery Zeigler would then step up to the plate with bases loaded, but would be hit by a pitch and collect a single RBI in the same manner as Shope. After the erratic pitching up until that point in the inning, Tristan Bridges would collect herself and strike out the next two Rambelle batters to get out of the inning.

Tarleton would fight back in the bottom of the first by putting up three runs of their own after capitalizing on an error and a batter being hit by a pitch. Some small ball, a single, and a double would be all it took to take a one run lead heading into the second inning.

The top of the second inning was when the Rambelles took control of the game, scoring five runs on three hits and four walks to take control of the game's momentum once again.  Angelo State added two more runs in the top of the fifth from a Taegan Kirk opposite field home run which proved to be just enough run support to win the game after staving off a Tarleton two run bout in the sixth. Kirk finished the game a perfect 3-3 at the plate. Avery Zeigler also had a good day in the batter's box, going 2-3 with two RBIs.

Meagan Hill picked up her sixth win of the season giving her a record of 6-3. In the game, Hill threw for five innings and gave up only three hits and two runs in an excellent relief appearance in the circle.

Game two was a different story that played out entirely different for the Rambelles. The Texans went into the second inning of the game with an 11-0 lead and would add five more runs to that total before the five inning game would conclude. Angelo State's troubles came primarily from control issues in the circle, as they walked 10 Tarleton batters and hit four more with pitches. ASU was also not able to get anything going offensively against Jordan Withrow, who allowed only three hits in five innings.
