STEPHENVILLE, TX – The Angelo State Rams completed their second sweep of the Tarleton Texans on the season Saturday afternoon by winning the series finale by a score of 19-5. The Rams outscored their opposition 49-9 over the course of the weekend.
ASU made sure to set the tone early with their first trip to the plate by scoring five runs in the top of the first. The Texans, who had only scored four runs in the series so far, then matched their series total with four in the bottom of the first to bring themselves within one. Both teams would quiet down in the third and fourth to remain at 5-4, but the Rams were given pitches they liked as they put up five more runs. Up 10-4 ASU kept finding the run column by one more in the fifth and two more in the seventh before their highest scoring inning in the top of the ninth where they dropped 6 more runs on the Texans. After their four runs in the first, Tarleton State was only able to respond with one run in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a strong triad of relief performances from the Rams' bullpen.
Klay Houston (2-0) was brought in to stop the bleeding in the first inning and earned his second win of the season for his 3.2 inning performance. The freshman faced 13, gave up four hits, and struck out four. Brandon Dusenberry was next in the relief line, as the lefty did the trick for another 3.1 innings in which he did not give up a single hit. Andrew Croucher closed the curtain on the Texans in the final two innings of the series finale. Croucher gave up one run on two hits, walked one, and struck out two.
The Rams were headlined at the plate by Lachlan Mayo who, along with the rest of the team, benefited from making six plate appearances. The Sydney native was 4-6 on the day with three RBI and three runs scored. Josh Elvir batted a solid .750 on the day in the batter's box as he went 3-4 with two RBI, two walks, a double, and his seventh triple of the year. Jackson Hardy, Riley Peterson, Nicholas Novak, Nick Seginowich, and Jordan Williams all connected for base hits more than once as well.
The Rams return from their road trip eight games better for a home series against the Texas A&M – Kingsville Javelinas on Friday, April 26th. Fans will be able to enjoy the Rams firework show, as well as a pyrotechnic display after the game for the Friday contest as it will be Firework night.
